Curiousity Struck the Future School Counselor...

I wanna be a School Counselor when I grow up, move back to my old Massachusetts town and start a FIRST team...

But that's like years into the future, when I decide to 'let go' of Rolling Thunder. Love the team too much...

But I was curious on what everyone else wanted to do for a career. (Granted I've posted... like twice... and I'm just exploring mostly...)

Out of curiousity, of course!

Well in the fall I'll be going to the University of Waterloo for Computer Science. From there? I'm not sure. I'll be in the Co-op program so maybe that will show me the way. But other than that I really want to stay involved with FIRST and I will do whatever I can to spread it throughout the world!

Mmm, I really would like to attend Notre Dame for college, but I've got a year yet. I want to go into medicine, though I'm not sure if I want to do the surgery end or the reasearch/medical illustration end. Time shall tell!

Well I'm pretty sure of it now, but i still have time to change since i'm only a sophmore but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be a Mechanical Engineer, at least thats where I hope to be at this point. But don't Discount the ever growing field of Nanotechnology its going to be to our generation what Plastics was to the our parents and grandparents.

2 things have crossed my mind, Engeneering, and 3D design and animation.

I have had a HUGE interest in graphic design for the past 4 years, so the 3d design and animation part is what I'm probably going to go for. Although, I still have 2 years of highschool to go...

Re: Curiousity Struck the Future School Counselor...

Well, let's see....
I started freshman year as Mechanical Engineering major.
I'm now a second year student and my major is "Humanities/Social Sciences."
But I'm thinking about becoming a Computer Graphics major.
And, if all of that falls through, I might go back to my original plan...

Mechanical Engineering undergrad followed by Medical School to become a pediatrician.

I guess you could say my life is still up in the air right now.

Also, a friend of mine brought up a good point. I've known her since I was...well, a toddler. When I told her my major (mechanical engineering, at the time) she looked at me surprised. She said she had expected me to be a teacher or do something to teach or help other people. This seriously made me consider doing something teaching related just so I can continue my support in FIRST.

To me, being in FIRST is the biggest learning experience anyone can have. I want to give that experience to everyone I can, be it now or thirty years down the line.

So, I guess, I'm not really sure yet. Yeah, it's a little strange to be a third year college student and still trying to figure it out, but that's okay in my book. I'm going to be cheesy now and quote a song (hey, I'm BandChick, that's what I do), but I guess to me it's inspirational:

"Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your life…the most interesting people I know didn’t know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don’t."

I'm going to UC Berkeley to study Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. From there, I really don't know what I want to do. I'm split mostly between computer programming and computer animation.

Re: Curiousity Struck the Future School Counselor...

Well, I just got an A+ on my Calculus midterm so I'm starting to think I'm going to like this Mechanical Engineering thing.

Anyway, I know that's what I want to do. My brain just functions like an engineer, I can't help it. I see the problems in everything and immediately think of how to solve them.

Re: Curiousity Struck the Future School Counselor...

I am completely unsure of my career, but I would love to go into Business Communications. There's a huge variety of classes I can be taking under this program, so I will have time to decide under which section of Communications I want. I'm so excited!

FIRST really helped me decide what I wanted to do. When I first started in FIRST (xD) I really had no idea what to do. I went from being a Civil Engineer like my dad to being a teacher, to being a counselor, to being a journalist, then to a programmer, then to total confusion. Finally, when I got into FIRST, I didn't know mechanical, but wanted to learn. Instead, I got pulled into the business work; letters, Chairman's, photography, etc. I enjoyed that a lot more, since it was the behind the scenes work, and it was more laid back than the stresses of trying to get a robot working in 6 weeks. Instead, since I love to write, take pictures, I stuck with it, and it's been so rewarding.

Thank you FIRST!

I'm so glad there's such a variety of careers that are blossoming out of FIRSTers. So amazing what can come out of such a program. Don't know of one like it yet! Doubtful there will be on either. FIRST is in a category all its own.
