Question Copies of all the FIRST Robotics Conference Presentation?

I've noticed that several of the FIRST Robotics Conference Presentations from the Championship this year have been posted in the White Papers section recently. I personally really wanted to attend many of these, but due to being busy on those days that the Conference was running, I was not able to attend any of them. I am sure this was a problem for many of us, as we had team or other responsibilities on the days of the competition. So this is essentially a simple request, for all CD members who presented over the course of the Conference to post materials, if there is any chance at all if they could.

I'm not sure about the guidelines, however. I know this was a pay-to-see event, so if there is a problem with posting the information for free, which there doesn't seem to be, as people have posted materials already, then that's OK too.

All of you presenters are just a wealth of knowledge, and I think that the community would be greatly benefited by posting your presentations. The stuff that I have looked through so far has all been extremely well done and informative.

Re: Copies of all the FIRST Robotics Conference Presentation?

All of the presenters in the sessions that I attended said that the presentation files would be made available on the FIRST web site. I know all the presentations from last year are on there. It probably will take the staff a few days to recover before they get posted.

Re: Copies of all the FIRST Robotics Conference Presentation?

I will be cleaning my presentation up a little and returning it to a more transportable file since many folks do not have Power Point. But is is going to take a while, my son is graduating from Bradley Univ in a few weeks and I am going to be busy until later in May.

Al,

Ever tried OpenOffice.Org? It'll open powerpoint presentations, and maintains a price tag I find very attractive (free).

Just a thought.

Al,

Doesn't MS still provide the PowerPoint Viewer for free? We've always been able to distribute PP files to folks to view with that app. They just cannot make any changes to the presentation, unless they have the full version of PP.

Drive Systems just posted

Good reminder Alex - I just posted a slimmed-down copy of mine+Copioli's Drive Systems presentation to the whitepapers. The only thing that was removed was some of the pictures.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

  • Finding NEMO (Non-Engineering Mentor Organization)
  • Robot Drive System Fundamentals
  • Writing Killer Autonomous Programs
  • Manipulators and Mechanisms
  • FIRST Electrical Design (still needs to be uploaded, but we've made contact)
  • NBD* Your Key to Robust Robotics (does Nothing but Dewalts whitepaper count?
  • Teamwork in 3D
  • Advanced LEGO Robotics: Control and Communication Using RoboLab(TM)
  • Managing a Multiple High School FIRST Team
  • Panel Discussion: Recruiting a Diverse Group of Students for FIRST Teams
  • Advanced C Programming
  • Panel Discussion: Engineering Curricula
  • Animation of Practical Robot Mechanisms
  • Panel Discussion: Retaining a Diverse Group of FIRST Students Once You Have Recruited Them
  • Do It Better Next Time: Continuous Improvement Through Root Cause and Corrective Action Analysis
  • Advanced Drivetrain Calculations - Drivetrain Modeling & Simulation
  • Using Conflict Resolution on an FLL Team
  • Effective FIRST Strategies for Robot Design and Competition
  • Building FLL Robots
  • Teaching Gear Theory to Students
  • Fundraising in Two Parts (we have part two, but not part one)
  • Expand Your Robotics Program to Involve All Your Students
  • Team-building: Build Your Team Before You Build Your Robot
  • College FIRST
  • WPILib - A Simplified Framework for IFI Robot Controller Programming
  • Teaching Robolab to Students

  • Developing a Robotics Outreach Program

That should be all of them. We need more strikethroughs.

Re: Copies of all the FIRST Robotics Conference Presentation?

FIRST is gathering all of the presentations to post on the site.

Someone accidentally took the memory key from one of the rooms, so they are trying to find it, so that may slow it down a bit.

The presentations are 'owned' by whoever created and presented them, so if they are posted they can be used just like any other white paper.

I think the fees charged for the conference just help to pay for the rooms.
(my guess only.)

Re: Copies of all the FIRST Robotics Conference Presentation?

NEMO's was very simple and mostly a question and answer session, with follow up to be posted on the NEMO forums. See white papers for how to join NEMO. FIRST will post two of our handouts (how to join and the other a list of useful handouts in the white papers!) when they get the section up.

That's part of it but FIRST has already rented the entire arena. From what I was told, the biggest cost was for FIRST Personnel time to organize the event. There were also AV costs. That's by no means a complete list of the costs but it does provide some idea of where the money's going.
