All this software

I'm still not clear on all the software in the KoP.

I know there's AutoCAD and 3ds max 7

but what are the other applications for?

thanks

Re: All this software

Well... There's Microsoft's Visual Studio, which allows you to program in C/C++, J#, VB, and a whole host of other MS languages.

Re: All this software

Also included is Vis, which, as I understand, is like 3DS Max, but more for architecture and CAD work. And there is also, my personal favorite, Inventor which is like supped up Auto CAD. They also include MP Lab and IFI Loader for programming the robot and sending the program to the robot. Other years (I don't know about this year) I have seen Microsoft Viso, which is either a work flow program or a brainstorming program (I don't know much about it). I think they might have also included Microsoft Project in the past. If you have a specific question about a piece of software, please tell us which one.

Actually, in the Autodesk Design Academy package they give both.

Now here's my question. What is the difference between AutoCAD and Mechanical Desktop?

I can't say for certain, but I think that it is more 3D oriented than AutoCAD, and along the lines of Architectural Desktop, but not for buildings.

Re: All this software

There's also Wings 3D, which is free on-line and it can print out to 3ds max format, great for teams who really don;t have alot to spend on animation or extra copies of the software because, younger kids can use thsi to learn 3ds max.

There is also gmax, a free, downloadable version of 3D Max that looks about the same with the same tools. The big difference is it lacks either (or both) animation or rendering. It looks and feels like 3DSM and also great to learn on. saves stuff as 3DSM scenes, but can't import ones made my 3DSM.

Cool I got to get that, becasue all a team needs is that, a few slave animators that send it to the main Animation team to touch up!!
