XBOX 360 will get the games, that why it will probably be the best selling out of the 3 new systems. Look, they already started to take the Final Fantasy series from Playstation . And with a most conveniently timed "Halo 3" release, at the same time as PS3, Microsoft is ensuring the XBOX 360 stays hot all the way into 2006. And anyone that thinks the Nintendo Revolution is gonna be a seller is just crazy, look at the Gamecube and how it got owned by the Playstation and XBOX. I really don't think the question should be, what next-gen console will be the best, but more like "Which next-gen console is going to put an end to PC gaming".

Re: XBox 360

According to the Associated Press, the PS3's Cell processing system is "10x more powerful than your home computer's". So I stand by my earlier statement of it being 7x as powerful as XBox 360s'.
And Square Enix may be giving FFXI to XBox, but FFXII and the rest will most likely being staying with Sony. I doubt Sony will let go one of its best series. I mean FFXI flopped on PS2 in America, but FFX, and the other more traditional Final Fantasies have dominated American gaming.

That's the biggest load of junk I've ever heard. If any system won't compete, it's Nintendo Revolution. Nintendo is surviving on its fan base, its few trademark games, and that's it. I used to be die hard Nintendo back in the SNES days. The gyro controllers that Revolution is reportedly going to use... I'm sorry, but it's just stupid. Can you see any hardcore gamer playing with something like that? I sure can't.

PS3 and Xbox 360 will dominate the market. Halo 3 is going to be nothing short of amazing, and I will definitely be purchasing the Xbox 360 before any other systems.

Re: XBox 360

I would love for the XBOX 360 to be only $249. That would make my day, although I am ready to pay as much as $350-400. By white, silver, gold do you mean different packages available at different price levels?

Re: XBox 360

This is interesting too.....

Quote:
Of the recent Xbox 360 gameplay footage we’ve seen so far, the one major concern has been that of the sometime sluggish framerate. In a recent discussion with a number of Microsoft executives, we managed to learn that all current Xbox 360 games that were shown at last night’s E3 press briefing are still running on alpha development kits that are not a true representation of what we can expect when the console launches this holiday season. Estimations are that the current kits are running at only 25-40% of the maximum power that the Xbox 360 will possess. Beta kits are scheduled to hit developers within the next 2 months and final hardware should arrive in early July. --teamxbox.com

Re: XBox 360

I think it's important to remember that Sony has unveiled far more information about their hardware architecture than Microsoft has. Saying that PS3 will be faster is premature.

In fact more SPEs, threads per CPU, or CPUs does not indicate that the games will be any better; all it means is developers will have more processing power available to them. To take advantage of this new power developers will have to write their software with multiple software threads. Currently, most games are written to run in a single thread. Games that have been written in two threads for multiple CPU computers have shown a negligible performance gain.

The real problem is not general purpose CPU power. That's why the original Xbox could get away with a 700MHz Celeron. The bottleneck in today's games are the GPUs. The console with the better designed GPU will have the best games.

XBox 360 and Poor Image Quality-
At the E3 trade show Xbox games are not running on console hardware they are being run on Apple Powermac G5s. Image quality will be better when the Xbox is delivered. Link

NOTE: This is only pure speculation

I believe that there are two main reasons why the demos looked cruddy with the G5

1. There are basically running a 10 year old OS with little modifications to it

2. I think that the GPU isn't even being used, and that all the graphics are being produced by the CPU instead.

Those demo boxes were running a special version of Windows NT for the PPC. These version of Windows NT was shortly discontinued right after NT was announced around 10 years ago. Since its such an old operating system, it probably doesn't take advantage of a lot of the G5's features.

I also believe that the graphics cards are not even being used in these demos (except to draw the image). The video cards in Macs are built only for OpenGL, and not DIRECT X. The DIRECT X then must have been done by the CPUs

But of course nothing runs as well as on the real thing
