Does your computer beep(POST) when you turn it on? Also, does it beep more than once?

P.S. I pesonally prefer the term nerd.

Re: CALLING ALL GEEKS! HELP!

Nope I am not getting any beeps from my hardware... I also do not think its booting into windows. My reason for this is because after I let it sit for a min, then I go to hit the power button (to turn the machine off)... and it just hangs

As you're booting, press the key that takes you into setup. Make sure the onboard graphics is not disabled. If it is, enable it - if you now have video, then your graphics card is shot. Usually the onboard is disabled when you have another graphics card inserted....

Re: CALLING ALL GEEKS! HELP!

Sounds like a hardware problem if it is not booting or posting. Have you installed any new hardware recently?

Nope, non... seems fairly random... I had shut my machine down... went to turn it back on... and *BAM* its not working. I have TONS of work stuff on my mahcine, not to mention school and personal stuff. I am praying that there is no issue with my drives.

Re: CALLING ALL GEEKS! HELP!

i'm also saying a hardware problem, particularly a motherboard or video card problem. I'd start checking my warranties

Re: CALLING ALL GEEKS! HELP!

remove hard drive, backup everything on another computer before carrying on.
Check for anything loose inside.... i lost graphics when the fan fell off the graphics card and it shut itself down for overheating....

and on a semi funny note.... according to
http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ballard/bofh/bofhserver.pl

The cause of the problem is:
Quantum dynamics are affecting the transistors

DJ Fluck had this exact same problem early in the year when he was building a new computer. I know we tried new ram and a couple new graphics cards to no avail. I I think he ended up returning the processor, saying it was defective. I'm not sure if the new processor ever fixed it, but maybe if you contacted him, he'd be able to tell you what he did.

Re: CALLING ALL GEEKS! HELP!

This just happened to a friend of mine, not sure exactly how I fixed it but here's what I did.

I took out the battery (It sit out for 2 days) and took out the processor and reseated EVERYTHING. RAM, Vid Card, Cables, etc. Then it magically booted, but gave a CMOS Checksum error on the first boot.
