Well, it certainly is possible to use openFIRST as the sole design of your site (and in the past some teams have); but that's not really the intention. What it's supposed to do is provide backend functionality, like a guest book, a feedback form, a members area, a photo gallery and a news posting system which can be changed easily to suit the layout of a team's site and which are designed to work together; but don't require each other. So, websites using openFIRST can look completely different; for example, these two sites both use openFIRST:
