There will be our first online chat on June 15th.

This will take place on our chat room in our yahoo group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FIRSTRCU/).

If you haven't already signed up on the yahoo group, please do so now so you can join us. This chat will let us be able to get to know each other and start working on issues may be a concern with girls involvement in FIRST. If you would like to submit a topic idea for our discussion please email it only to MarieSchulmann@yahoo.com. The topics will be given out anonymously.

Quick question: What time will the chat take place? I would love to partake as I have some questions regarding the development of a MI chapter, however I work at night and sometimes as early as 3 pm. Any idea what time everyone will be chatting?

Minutes:

As many of you are aware, we had a meeting on Wednesday, June 15.
Here are some highlights from that meeting.

OCCRA was the hot topic of the night… What is it? (We`re very
excited to learn more.. Please send me an email if you were involved
in it, I`d love to compile all of your experiences and make them
available to other girls.) We're going to contact OCCRA to get some
ideas - we'll be keeping you posted.

We asked what do you want to hear in future chats? That led us to a
discussion on scholarships and internships (You'd be surprised how
much is available to FIRST girls!), and we plan to elaborate on this
more in future chats.

Other ideas that came up that you want in chats are on-line
workshops in Robotics, having mentors speaking to us on Colleges,
and doing an on-line version of Women in Science and Technology
(having experts come and tell us "what it`s like").

We will be starting polls on what the time and date should be for
our chats, as well as how often.
For now, we would like your input on the following question:
Would you prefer if these chats were conversational (we would
present a topic, and get your feedback on it) or talking to
an "expert in the field" (we would have women in specific fields
speak and answer your questions), or both? Please respond to Julia

We'll be doing a mentor chat later this month - and scheduling
another RCU student chat in July. Stay tuned!
