I particularly loved this one item in the kit...

Thanks for posting this, Dez--it's interesting to know how far things have come in fourteen years.

(True story: The night before kickoff, Dez, Marc P., and I are sharing a room in Manchester. Dez tells me he's got the rules, flashing them in front of me. Wanting to keep the surprise, I shielded my eyes--then he tells me it's from 1992. I felt silly.)

Wow! That was fascinating. This was my first year in FIRST and did not realize how far the competition has come (and how much more it costs ).

Wow... The "no tape for structural purposes rule" has been around since '92.

Re: White Paper Discuss: 1992 FRC Manual

Wow...all I can say. I am always looking out for old games, and well they do not get much older than this. One of the more intereting things I saw was the use of corn as a part of the playing field surface. I can only imagine how that would turn out now, at the least a big mess ( but a very fun one!). Dez, thanks for posting this, and if you have anymore feel free to toss those up too .

Re: White Paper Discuss: 1992 FRC Manual

"If a projectile is used, it must have a frontal area greater than 10 square inches"...
And you can't spray oil all over the opponent's robots, and you can operate the robot by having it react to the corn, the walls and the air, and after competition, your robot becomes property of FIRST. So much for off-season events .

Given the smaller size of the robots, I'd say that Maize Craze was more like non-destructive Battlebots than today's FIRST robotics. But good find though, since I've only seen a few pictures of Maize Craze and knew only that it involved a playing field of corn.

Re: White Paper Discuss: 1992 FRC Manual

Yeah... I've been wonder if there was a copy out there and how long it would take to get put on here. What else could you do with a t-shirt? Wait... never mind... I retract my previous statement and realized this is FIRST and we can do anything with anything.

Uhh... The surface of the field for the 1992 game was 1.5" of unpopped corn kernels. It'd be pretty hard NOT to break the surface of the field.

3. For safety reasons, rubber bands may not be used as an energy accumulator.
What about small furry animals?

A few other things I noticed:

1. There's no specification as to what exactly "the Small Parts Catalog" is. It could be a catalog from a pet store named Small Parts...

2. There's no barring of any other power supplies for the robot, assuming they are not on the robot.

i believe that they meant this company's catalog . do they still include the small parts catalog in the kits, and if not, when did they stop including them?
