Spoiler tags?

The mystical ball thread has led to some folks posting spoilers through various methods, usually blending colors carefully and pointing to where it is.

Given that we also get a fair amount of movie threads, is there a way to create a semi-standard tag for spoilers that requires highlighting or some other intentional action by the reader to see it?

Thanks!

(decides to run, before everyone starts throwing rocks because I'm distracting Brandon from CD-Media)

Re: Spoiler tags?

In all the other forums I've used we always just say something like ":: Spoiler Alert:: " then followed by the subject of the thread.. that way no one could make the mistake of viewing it that didn't want to.

Re: Spoiler tags?

I've added it to the ToDo list. I've seen a few ways to implement the spoiler tag, so I'll have to look to see what's easiest to implement (and keep implemented through upgrades)

That would be me... I hate not sharing, so it was a compromise.

Another "spoiler"
And I even missed something in my first spoiler, so it didn't help much.

Interesting idea. Never thought of that. Doesn't seem like that hard. I'm betting anything vB has a "look for dem tags" when creating posts for pages, so all you'd have to do is drop in a quick regex which replaces [spoiler]that hidden text[/spoiler] with <span>Spoiler: that hidden text</span> and some CSS to either make it match the background (which, for the interested, is 0xf1f1f1), or maybe expand down on a hover over "spoiler." (Easy enough to do through CSS)

But, we don't want to distract Brandon from CD-Media, do we...
Goes to get a sledge hammer.

Re: Spoiler tags?

Lots of sites have spoiler tags. The coolest ones just become visable when you mouse over them. Some easy CSS :hover psuedo-classing.

But those are also the easiest to trigger accidentally.

I'd stick with the "highlight to read" system, if I were making the decision.

There is also those that make you click on something to disclose the text. I don't know how they work, but it looks cool and will effectivly hide stuff.

Maybe it could be something like the menus that drop down when you click on "new posts", "search", and "quick links" (among others) at the top of the page.

Re: Spoiler tags?

The spoiler tag has been added to CD!

How to use it:
Code:
[spoiler=Title of Spoiler Tag]What is being spoiled.[/spoilr]
And it turns out like this:
Spoiler for Title of Spoiler Tag:
What is being spoiled.
