Re: Fans Of Michael Moore
In the recent past, a thread here about atheism effectively became, simultaneoulsy, a debate about whether we ought to be allowed to discuss atheism at all and a challenge to the atheist viewpoint.
Here, we have a thread specifically in search of "fans of Michael Moore." This is not a thread for people who dislike Michael Moore and it might do some a bit of good to recognize and respect that and keep quiet about their discontent. If you feel compelled to proselytize further about Michael Moore's work, perhaps you'd consider starting your own thread in search of like-minded people. Debate and conversation should be encouraged, of course, but it is equally important to respect and provide safe spaces for congruent individuals to share and learn from one another in anticipation of the inevitable onslaught of ideas and views in opposition to their own. I liked "Bowling for Columbine" but detested "Fahrenheit 9/11" and can understand why many would not like Moore's brand of 'documentary,' just as I can understand why some may not feel that atheism is a valid theology. What I am yet to understand is why those people can't afford even the slightest modicum of respect for those seeking others like themselves and, instead, must try to satiate an unceasing need to espouse their own contradictory, unsolicited views. |

But in general I am glad that his work is out there. It is a good thing for other people to see. Even though I hate some of the movies (Bowling for Columbine is pretty good)... they cause people to think and maybe will even inspire others to do research on things that they too feel passionate about. Hey... maybe if I am lucky there will be a larger market for documentaries in the future. -Kelli Last edited by KelliV : 21-06-2005 at 14:42. |

Re: Fans Of Michael Moore
I respect his opinions, but I hate the way he presents them. He takes advantage of ignorant minds, by presenting a one sided argument where nearly all of his arguments can be shot down if only given a chance.

Re: Fans Of Michael Moore
In every editorial, there exists at least a bit of truth. There is virtually nothing composed of pure fiction, most begins with an ounce of truth. Of course it would be ridiculous to present an editorial as pure fact. There is nothing that is pure fact in this world. Everything that exists is presented with a bit of opinion, I don't care if it is Michael Moore's films or a news report on the grass growing outside the station's building. Everything spoken by humans includes opinion. I find Michael Moore's work to be good because it presents a view on situations than people may have seen before. The only way that people can be truly intelligent and educated is if they look at all sides of the situation, bo matter which they believe at the end of their research. Don't close off your mind to any possibility before you have fully analyzed all views and options.

Re: Fans Of Michael Moore
For the record-
I am not a fan of Michael Moore... but supposedly I look like him. I have his picture from a magazine over my desk and everyone thinks the guy with the rifle is me. I'm not sure this is a good thing.... WC ![]() |

Re: Fans Of Michael Moore
it is very important to not take evrything at face value. This especially important when deciding who to vote into to the government. Always look at multiple sources and then cross reference and decide your facts from there and then and only then can you make a truely informed decision about who to vote for or what to believe. I have seen Farenheit 9-11 and its conservitive counterpart fahrenhype 9-11 and to say that they are both documenteries would be contradictory in most aspects of each other. There are actual solid facts in both but they both are also two pieces of propaganda for last years election.
thats my 2 cents |

Re: Fans Of Michael Moore
His movies are great (Canadian Bacon is my favorite!), and F9/11 is also legal to copy and distribute for noncommercial purposes. Always a fan of that!
