What to do with an old Windows 3.10 laptop?

I acquired one of these a while back from Jay who is on my team, and I just brought it back out of my desk's cabinet for a breath of fresh air. It's a shame I haven't used it in a while, but I have no idea what to do with it.

Any suggestions?

It's a Toshiba t1900c laptop (one of the old-school white ones) with:
Windows 3.10
DOS 6.0
386 Enhanced processor
9104kb memory
and.. a whopping 22,480kb HD.
Floppy Drive
Support for PCMIA

Any ideas?

All I want to really do with it now is potentially upgrade it to Win95 (Need the floppy disks) connect it to the internet (need a pcmia card) and download and run SETI on it just to say I did it.

That's not to much to ask right?

I don't think you'd be able to install Win 95 on that machine. I had a 486 running 95, and it was just barely enough to do basic functions. Also, according to the Windows 95 system requirements, you need 35-40 MB of free hard disk space to upgrade a system to 95.

Or you could try to rival Sanddrag's server. Get a small Linux distro (really small) and put one page on it.

If you're going to do that, let me help IM me, you have my info. I know of a few ways to pull that off.

Re: What to do with an old Windows 3.10 laptop?

I think a server is a great idea. Bering a laptop it would hardly use any power and you might actually suprise yourself with how well it works. Of course it would be a little bi more difficult to make secure than a Mac.

Re: What to do with an old Windows 3.10 laptop?

Here's a web server I found for Windows 3.1 or 3.11 http://www.imatix.com/html/xitami/index2.htm#download seems like it should run on your machine, but I have no idea how secure or insecure it is.

I used to run SETI on a 486 w/64M. It took about a week for each work unit. I hate to think how long a unit would take on your 386.

I don't think 3.10 can even handle a graphics intensive program such as solitaire.

Although, there was a really cool game called Bow & Arrow that I used to play on my old 3.11 machine back in the day. I wonder if I still have that disk.

Basically what you would do is use an archer and shoot some balloons.

Nothing like high tech gaming circa 1992.

edit: Ha ha ha I found it.
http://home.arcor.de/uweramm/files/barrow.zip

Works just as good as I remember.

Windows 3.1 WAS designed for graphical programs like solitaire. In fact, it was designed as a graphical overlay for DOS. I have a old 386 Toshiba satellite around the house somewhere with 3.11 on it, and it definitely can play solitaire.

barrow was the best game ever.

Sure it can. Our school has a 3(or was it 4)86 running 3.1 and playing Castlevania 3D, a true graphical wonder of it's time. 3D terrain! Secret Passages! Realistic Graphics! One of the first First Person Shooters! Oh... That was a great game. You also have to love Sabacc for Windows. I don't know how in the heck it got on there, but the graphics were amazing. So detailed that it took all of 30 seconds for the screen to load completely
