I saw it last night...
I really enjoyed it! I thought the Lightning was awesome Tripods coming out of the ground Their weapons were awesome I liked the basement part and a bunch of others I still didn't get some things though Planting Blood vessels? and Beaming humans down? Why birds helped stop the tripods? And if they were planning this for a million years Wouldn't they have Completely different machinery? But overall the effects and movie was Awesome |

Re: War of the Worlds [Spoilers]
Just saw it. While it was an edge of your seat type of movie (and it made me feel like it was really hot in that theatre) I wouldn't say it was terrifying. The put a lot into the sound effects. The movie would be nothing without them.
Overall, I thought it was just so so. The effects were good, but the story I thought was lacking. For pretty much the whole movie, it is just a guy and a little girl running from laser beams and stuff like that. There wasn't a whole lot of dialog either. Mostly just sounds of stuff blowing up, falling over, etc. And then every now and then a loud too loud imho fog horn blast type sound every time one of those darned things got ready to strike. The end was wrapped up way to fast. I mean, one minute these things are on their way to destroying mankind (and everything mankind has built) and are unstoppable the next they are being brought down by a canon sitting on a soldiers shoulder? And the whole reason is some microbes or something like that? That just doesn't do it for me. I know the makers of the film didn't write the story, but I thought there would be more to it. I'd call it a good exhibition of special effects capabilities, nothing more. Last edited by sanddrag : 03-07-2005 at 00:41. |

You'd certainly think, however, that a technologically-advanced Martian (or whatever) species would have taken indigenous pathogens and diseases into account during their lengthy study of the earth and its people prior to the attack. I'm sure they had to deal with their own strains of sicknesses back on their homeworld. But that's not the way H.G. Wells laid it out. |

Re: War of the Worlds [Spoilers]
I thought the movie was an example of fantastic sound effects.
But that was about it. Oh, and it really made me want to play half life 2 through again. -Andy A. |

Re: War of the Worlds [Spoilers]
I saw the first showing at my movie theatre (though it was rather inadvertant) and I thought the movie was great. However annoying Racheal was, the acting was really superb. I really enjoyed the grenade scene because it showed how something so small could bring down something so big.

Re: War of the Worlds [Spoilers]
I loved the movie. Now it wasn't the scariest movie I have ever seen, but there was some times were I did jump a little bit. As for the ending, I was confuzed a little bit but then i realized how they were able to kill them. I thought that was awesome. And for those that think that this movie only has good sound effects....go watch Barney because this movie had it all. I give it two thumbs way up.

I love the everyman perspective of the movie and the intensity is great but the ending feels tacked on. My wife complained bitterly about it.

Re: War of the Worlds [Spoilers]
I enjoyed this movie very much. I saw this about a month ago with some of my family (me being the only chick...Oye) The parts that needed to be suspenseful were suspenseful to the max, and the way it was put together was great.
Sure, some parts were unrealistic, like when Ray and his family got away from the water attack without being noticed, and how Robbie survived. But it was extremely well done. One of the most action- and suspense-filled movies I've seen. |

Re: War of the Worlds [Spoilers]
I saw it with by friends a while ago and it was pretty thought provoking, like, what was the deal with those blood-root things? were they trying to terraform the earth? But I can see how the aliens could overlook the microbes etc, We humans can only see them with the help of microscopes and the like ourselves, If they're observing us from space, it'd be even harder for them to see 'em, on account of how far away they are. but anyway, The movie was awesome, and I can't wait to see it again...
I love it when people collapse into litterboxes |
