looking for Lockheed Martin Sponsored Teams

I am looking for FIRST supporters (mentors, parents, team alumni, students, etc) that work for Lockheed Martin. I have gotten a web site setup on the internal Lockheed Martin network using Sharepoint collaboration software. (due to some corporate policies and cost issues, I cannot make it available outside the network.)

The purpose is to establish a network of people within the corporation who support FIRST and a way for us to share information between business units/teams/locations. It can also serve as a site that we can direct new volunteers, people with questions, or corporate communications.

if you are a Lockheed Martin employee, or know one who would be interested, please let me know. The easiest way is to send me an email: george.w.marchant@lmco.com

Re: looking for Lockheed Martin Sponsored Teams

WOW! There's a ton of teams sponsored by Lockheed (at least in some way or another).

7, 54, 87, 243, 281, 317, 399, 444, 457, 499, 604, 622, 623, 653, 665, 801, 945, 980, 1053, 1068, 1110, 1143, 1304, 1327, 1338, 1339, 1348, 1393, 1395, 1534, 1550, 1619, 1642, and 1647.

That's far more then the other commercial aerospace companies. Good Luck!

Re: looking for Lockheed Martin Sponsored Teams

Lockheed Martin was also a supporter of the Maryland FIRST Lego League State tournaments this year. They sent several engineers to be judges at our qualifiers and finals. In addition, they paid for one of their engineers to travel to Atlanta to judge the World Festival. E-mail me and I can provide you with names.

Wow.... we must have talked to the wrong person there. We are located near a lockheed plant so, we figured it was worth a try. We were told that they sponsor the FIRST competition at the regional level and were not in a position to contribute individual teams.

Whomever you spoke to spoke truthfully. That is the policy of the local Lockheed plant. Just about every team in GA goes to them for funds and they do not want to pick a single school and not help the others. They work with the Regional committee to provide funds for both the regional and championship event. They also provide funds (when available) to the committee to assist local GA teams with their registration and/or robot building. If funds are available the teams in need are contacted directly, informally interviewed by myself or the RD and then a decision is made on what the best way to help the team is.
