Re: Old 883= 24V Speed controller???

part of the reason we would like to use the current 24v motors is because they already have attached gearboxes and wheels. (they came off of one of GT's old Bomb-bots)....

hmmm... is there a way we could run 2 Victor 883s to one motor? we have 5 spare 883s, so..

um...can anyone help us with this?

we are now going to test the motors at 12v, but I don't think they will do much.

Re: Old 883= 24V Speed controller???

Looks like you have some beefy motors. Hook them up and try them on 12 volts. Put some load on them. Will they work yes or no. If the power and speed are fine then you have a solution with out any additional cost. If the power and speed are not sufficient then no you can't rig 2 speed controllers together. The 883 victor IFI sells today will work at 24 volts, however you need a 24 volt fan. You can order them from IFI or use a 12 volt voltage regulator with the present fans. The problem is your victors are old. For the 2004 season IFI made allot of changes to their hardware. You should call or e-mail IFI and confirm that the older 883 victors are 24 volt capable. If the old victors are not 24 volt capable then you have to buy new controllers or fit 12 volt motors to you gear boxes. After you work this out then you can put the cart together. Remember your going to be working with allot of amps. Follow the wiring recommendations making sure you use heavy wire (6 Gage at least) proper circuit breakers and a good battery disconnect. Your team probably didn't use the Allegro current sensors. You could use them to limit the current in software. Then your going to need 2 good batteries. The kit batteries may not give the endurance you need. Sears sells a gel cell wheel chair battery that has allot of power. Make sure you use a gel cell. First would not allow a regular automotive battery at an event. Hope this helps
