ahem, that was an Anti-IRI party i may add. But from what I saw of the 6 hours of the webcast I watched, yeah i know. It looked like some great competition, MCs are doing a great job and we have a list of quotes, some of them are pretty funny. For the first round of matches for everyone, just about everyone looked a bit rusty but everyone snapped back into action pretty quickly as the day went on.

Oh this was brought up several times in the chat:
Does anyone thing that the Changed Human Loader Rules (you don't have to touch, just straddle the mat) has any part to do with the large number of penalties Andy gets to call? Some of the matches had lots of penalties, I guess some Humans were rusty too.

I would like to predict the winner or strong teams, but this is IRI. Anyone (including 9999) has a chance to win it. But watch the teams in the Top 10, if they keep up what they are doing several of them (330, 25, 33, 16, 47) have proven again and again this year that they deserve to be 1st round teams.

Re: 2005 IRI day one!!!

as far as, penalties go, there are a lot of first-timers out there. Not saying that all of the first-timers are bad, but most didn't; a. know the rules, or b. know what they were doing. From our teams standpoint we had a first-time H.P., but we filled him in during practice. Andy Baker even mentioned (warned) to the teams that they should inform those who do not know the interpretations of the rules. Still many penalties were called on simple errors and minor faults. But such is life and the show must go on.

But personally, IRI is rocking! Everyone on our team is having fun, whether it be with the FRC or with VEX.
Day 1 was great and I can't wait until eliminations and Day 2!

Wouldn't that cause fewer penalties? It would seem to me that it's a lot easier to have the robot straddling rather than touching.

Re: 2005 IRI day one!!!

The new rule requires that part of the drive base atleast be over or touching the loading zone on both the HP and the auto loader zones. I would not call it an increase in penalties. We had alot in the beginning but as the day progressed we had less and less of those and very few today. I think the Logan from 461 stated a good observation above that alot of it is due to the breaking in of new drive teams. Its an easy mistake to make and alot of the time its a close call, but its a call that must be made.

The IRI iHOP Catastrophe

This is pretty funny. Well we, team 65, get a schedule that says we are in match like 17 for our first match. Then there was a schedule revision that said we were match 19 and that match started at noon. So the whole team decides to go to breakfast because we had like an hour and a half until out first match, match 10. Well we get back and there was another schedule revision...we were match one. By the time we got there the match was already over. I think we went against 33 503 and some one else and we were teamed up with 469. We lost pretty bad..i think it was like 79-7 or something like that. But at the end of the day we ended up 7-2 and third seed so i think the weekend ended well.

Re: 2005 IRI day one!!!

Sorry about that Stevie,

It was an issue with the team list, the one we were using to generate matches was out of date and we couldn't access the web yet to get a more uptodate one from our email inboxes so yeah that was completely our fault, and we apologize for the 3 different versions.

Great job though, I seriously loved watching your bot in every match it was in!

Re: 2005 IRI day one!!!

thanks but i have just one question. how did that post get into this thread? i swore that i put it in a totally different thread. I'm not mad or anything but i am just confused.

p.s that was my first time driving in any kind of competition. thanks for the complement. but it wasn't all me, it was Mary the arm operator and ken the coach also. and it helped that we had some awesome alliance partners.

It's those bored forum moderators who have nothing else to do, so they move posts around randomly to try and mess with your head. They were probably really bummed out because they weren't at the IRI.

Actually, if the moderators think a thread better fits in another area, they will move it. I think this one started in chit-chat, but got moved here.

Yes i merged the threads because the Ihop one didn't really need its own thread and worked just as well as a reply to this one...and no chris i wasn't bitter about not being at IRI

I walked out right when the moshpit started, because we planned on replacing the left front wheel but we ended up watching everyone testing the new IFI stuff. Too bad I missed the chair part.
