Oh man they don't have Starbucks Double Shot Espresso. But at least I now know I must consume 310 cans of my favorite variety of cola to kill myself.

Re: caffeine calculator

For everyone's basic reference, and since I have way way way too much time on my hands...here's a lethality scale, based on a 150 lb. person and ranked from least lethal to most lethal. The number indicated is the number of cans it would take to kill you

The letters in parenthesis afterwards are as follows:

(CC) = Coca-Cola Company
(D7) = Doctor Pepper & 7 UP
(M) = Mistic
(P) = Pepsi-Cola
(RC) = Royal Crown
(S) = Snapple

Least Lethal --> Most Lethal
  • Decaffeinated Lemon Tea Snapple (S) 2268
  • Tea Snapple (Ginseng, Sun, Diet Sun) (S) 1360.8
  • Lipton Brisk (P) 1134
  • Diet Nestea Cool (CC) 927.82
  • Sweet Tea Snapple (S) 850.5
  • Lemonade Iced Tea Snapple (S) 756
  • Nestea Iced Tea (Lemon, Diet Lemon, Raspberry, Peach) (CC) 637.88
  • Nestea Cool (CC) 637.88
  • Mistic Tea (Lemon, Diet Lemon, Peach) 567
  • Moon (Green Tea) Snapple (S) 567
  • Lightning (Black Tea) Snapple (S) 486
  • Barq's Root Beer (CC) 463.91
  • Diet A&W Creme Soda (D7) 463.91
  • IBC Cherry Cola (D7) 443.74
  • Green Tea with Lemon (S) 425.25
  • Nestea Iced Tea (Sweet, Unsweetened) (CC) 392.54
  • A&W Creme Soda (D7) 351.93
  • Tea Snapple (Lemon, Diet Lemon, Peach, Diet Peach, Mint, Raspberry, Diet Raspberry) (S) 324
  • Coca-Cola (Cherry, Diet, Classic) (CC) 300.18
  • Diet Pepsi-Cola (P) 283.5

  • Ruby Red Squirt (Regular, Diet) (D7) 261.69
  • Mr. Pibb (Regular, Diet) (CC) 255.15
  • Dr. Pepper (Regular, Diet) (D7) 248.93
  • Sunkist Orange Soda (D7) 248.93
  • Diet Sunkist Orange Soda (D7) 243
  • Dr. Nehi (RC) 243
  • Royal Crown Cola (Cherry, Regular) (RC) 236.25
  • Diet Coke (CC) 226.8
  • TAB (CC) 226.8
  • Nehi Wild Red Soda (RC) 203.71

  • Sun Drop Cherry (D7) 159.47

My Anatomy and Physiology Final is tomorrow...

Some effects of caffeine : increased mental alertness, restlessness, nervousness, insomnia, dilation of the bronchioles, increased blood pressure, and increased renal function. Increased renal function means you pee more.

Mike, caffeine causes cardiac arrhythmias, which cause quivering. If the heart was able to coordinate the rhythm, it could beat at that speed and not explode.

At about 2mg/kg load, caffeine will induce nausea, vomiting, and muscle spasms.

Amp has 77mg/8oz. If DJ drank 6 cans, that would be 50.4oz of Amp, 3,881mg of caffeine. I don't think DJ weighs 887 lbs, so that would induce "BAD THINGS" in him, if ingested at the same time. The liver will have processed most of the caffeine out of the blood about 3 hours after ingestion.

Amp also happens to be my drink of choice to stay awake on the road. Works rather well. Should have used it when I pulled a 54 hour day before the VCU regional in 2002, then tried to drive the 2.5 hours there.

I did'nt think sunkist or root beer were cafffinated! Either I have been living a lie, or they take sugar into account. Wonder how much sugar it would take to kill someone?

Re: caffeine calculator

Heh, I had made some cool caffeine shirts for me and some of my friends.
http://www.cafepress.com/caffeinery/
If you guys are interested, let me know (via PM, preferably) and I'll set up a coupon so you can get them for just the base price.

Mountain Dew is, though, the beverage of choice for our team during build season. Bawls are just too expensive.

I don't think that the whole 'Yellow 6' thing is all that its cracked up to be. After all, if it really had serious 'side effects' as the myths say, the FDA would probably ban its sales here in the U.S. And, if you are curious, look at all the food you eat. You will see that Yellow 6 is in a lot more food than you think. I've seen it on the ingredients list on various sports drinks, microwave popcorn, chips, Doritos, various snack food products, and some ice cream.

Anyway, if it would take 149 cans of Mountain Dew to kill me (which the caffeine calculator says), I think that I would have more pressing issues on my mind, other than a caffeine overdose. After all, 149 cans x 12 ounces/can = 1,788 ounces = 111.75 gallons of Mountain Dew. You would probably die from your cells exploding from a massive overdose of water before the caffeine would kill you.
