Team Parties at Regionals

If you could give input for the team party at the regional you attend, what suggestions would you have?

THIS IS YOUR CHANCE!

1. What type of activities do you want?
(dancing, games, rides)
2.What type of food do you want?
(full meal, finger food)
3.Would you prefer it to be at the same location as the competition or somewhere else?

This could be your party, be creative, but be realistic!

Hope to see you at the Phoenix Regional!

Cool

I'll give some imput for activities.....

One thing i really like that kept me entertained for awhile was "interactive" activites. A great example of this was the team party after the Motorlola Regional....they had obsticale courses, basketball courts, "skooter/tricycle/misc races", and many other activities for the kids....

Another cool thing (or atleast i thought) is to have the team party at a "special place" like the team party in Cleveland. The party was at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and they had food set up in different spots, w/ band/dance floor, and the kids/adults were free to roam the entire place....

At both of the regionals i went to (socal and sv), there was a dance floor and there were moonbounces and obstacle courses, and all the usual stuff. But there was also, which i appreciated, quiet(er) places where people (like me, who have no life) could sit and talk (strategize?) and not have to listen to loud music

SUMO WRESTLING!!!!!!! we sat at the San Jose regional for hours watchin people wrestle. It's hilarious, especially when the workers beat up on the big guys who try to gang up on a little person.

Angry Team Party

For one thing I would like a party where the DJ does not blow out the bass woofers and stop the music for a long time ( For any of you at UTC new england you know what I am talking about). I wish our regional had sumo wresteling and obstacle courses. Luckly My teams sponsor BAE SYSTEMS is sponsoring the Manchester regional at the Verizon Center I will put in a good word for some more fun things to do.

Well, certain team parties that I've gone to weren't... great... I might be wrong because I never stayed the whole time, but they were kinda dull. It was just a DJ playing some music and food. There was nothing really encouraging any social interaction (and at a robotics competition, that's rather important). I would recommend anything that gets people together and talking and having fun. Maybe limbo contests, sumo wrestling, stuff like that. Also, a quiet place is very important for the die-hard strategists and the people who want to 'talk' and get away from the really loud music. Another thing is to keep the music to an endurable volume. And as far as food, not something as heavy as pasta, roast beef with gravy and such. Maybe cold cuts, munchies and sodas. This should keep the occassion as informal as possible.

Other things

Don,

One of the nice things about SoCal was the use of containers to form a wedge around the video screens. This allowed many people to view at the same time as well as provide a space to write notes upon.

I am completely in favor of serving a good meal at the team party. By Friday night most everyone is burnt out on fast food.

The Sumo wrestling is always great.

Quiet places are also excellent.

changes...

Hey, my team attended the New Jersey and the Canadian Regional and the team parties there:

I think obstacle courses are a great idea, we didn't have any.
The food was good in both cases, in NJ you ate at one place and went then to the team party which was located in another building and in Toronto they had a buffett. We just filled our plates and sat down on the floor since all tables were full (that was actually really fun to eat sitting on the floor with a large group of people).

There was a dance floor in both cases, but the music was only rap and techno, which I don't like at all. I think the DJ's have to be instructed to play all different music styles, especially more Rock and Pop.

I Toronto we had a light weight ball at the team party, and we just stood in a circle with 15 people and tried to hold the ball in the air as long as possible by pushing it to each other. Some people from other teams joined in which was really nice, It was totally fun although the ball landed in the food at least three times ;-)

Phil

NO! THEY ARE NAPSTER KILLERS!

What the parties need, are a few contests. Maybe a dance contest, a sumo wrestling contest, and eating contest, etc. Things like that. Yeah... things like that.

Stick us all in a room just big enough to be comfortable, but small enough so that there's nowhere to run. Then all we need are some beach balls and about 800 cans of whipped cream.

That would be fantastic.

the food at the regional parties i've noticed has been, ehhh...not too good, a full course meal is too much but better finger food works too...

As far as entertainment, dancing is def in, so a DJ is needed that plays GOOD music(i.e. techno, house, trance....hip-hop/rap*tear*i hate rap but u do dance to it) but we really need a moon bounce, or those sumo suits or the jousting things...thats realistic...

The philly regional is held at the franklin institute and i would think it's inconvenient for people that dont live in philly and want to go...but i wouldnt know im from philly

We've only attended one regional - MidAtlantic in NJ...
from my experiences my first year, the food sucked, because it had sat out for about an hour, and the competition ran late. Most of us were exhausted, because we traveled so far, and the music was abnoxiously loud. Not a good experience, and we left after about 20 min.

My second year, the food was moved across the road to a dining area. It was really nice and calm, and the food was really good. Nobody on the team wanted to go to the party that year, so we never even went to the student center for the music.

This year, I can't really say how the food was, because the naseau from being on the floor team kept me away from all solids for the three days. The food looked good though! As a driver of a team whom ended up placed in the top 10 at the end of the day, the last thing I wanted to do was go to loud music and watch people make fools of themselves. So, I can't say how the music part was, but from what I heard, people enjoyed the socializing, but thought it could of been a little more interesting then just dancing.
