It is quite interesting to walk around campus, here at Purdue, and see all the people with iPods. It seems like every other person has one here. It would be interesting if someone did a poll to see what percentage of people have an iPod.

Every MP3 player I see at Dayton is an iPod, except for one kid who rooms next to me. (darn you Conkey!) It's acutally pretty amazing, I can't wait to come back from X-Mas and see everyone with their iPod nanos now.

Im very skeptical about that lanyard mostly because it looks like it plugs into the docking outlet....and seeing how easy it is to disconnect those things from their docks...>_>

SOMEONE may have to go spend another 200-250 if you know what I mean...

Re: Apple Killed the iPod Mini

Well my nano arrived this morning [one day early]. Once I get things all charged up and after I use it going to and from class today I'll post some images and maybe a little "review" or something. All I'm going to say now is that this is one of the coolest pieces of digital entertainment hardware that I've ever seen.

A review would be welcomed. This gives me an idea: a monthly review of new gadgets could be a cool thing to have on CD. These gadgets could range from iPod nanos to new fastening techniques for t-slotted aluminum. They could be robot related or not. Either would be welcome.

And... um... Kyle... before you sell your "outdated" iPod, I am willing to take it off of your hands for a reasonalbe fee. I would not want that to be an albatross, bogging down your studious efforts and making your apartment more cluttered. I am here to help.

Re: Apple Killed the iPod Mini

i still don;t understand what all the fuss is about with the ipod. i personally think archos has always made better products that have more features for the same cost.

for example i would much rather have a gmini 402 then a nano

I think it's a few things.

1) iPods tend to look good. Mine's been scratched from here to Tuesday through its travels, and it still looks sexy.
2) iTunes. Nobody else has reached the simplicity of the arrangement (99 cents a song, $10ish for an album, share across a few computers, burn within reason).
3) Sheer simplicity. If I buy an album off iTunes the night before, I can wake up in the morning, connect my iPod up, disconnect, and go. No fiddling or messing around. (And it's easy to control when mildly distracted--volume is controlled by a ginormous wheel, and I can pause and move around songs by using buttons that are pretty large for the size of the device.)
4) It only has what people want. They want music, arranged in some easy fashion. Some throw in photos for fun, but so far not as many people want to see videos on a 2.2" screen. (Heck, I'm not fond of looking at them on a 12" screen, hence I got the 14" iBook.)

That's my view. Your battery life may vary.

I love their idea of a stress test:
Sit on it
Drop it while jogging
Drop it out the window while driving (10, 30 & 50 mph)
Drop it from 9 ft (display failure point)
Run over it with a car (would you believe it still played music?)
Throw it way up in the air and let it hit the concrete (RIP)

So, with Samsung announcing 16 GB flash memory, and Apple holding hands with Samsung, how long will it be until the disk-based iPod disappears from the Apple Store?

I'm not sure I would shell out $300 for a device that includes the Mophun™ game engine in it's product specifications

Man, mine was supposed to be here at 10:30 this morning...but FedEx says it's still in Anchorage. . . my white nano also originated from Shenzhen CN.

I have a 40GB 4G iPod with 7125 songs on it, but I decided to buy a nano because:

1. Size: I needed an iPod that i could have in my pocket while I'm in uniform (you're not supposed to have buldges in your pockets in uniform.)

2. Capacity: Yeah, it's very nice to have you entire library of music in your pocket, but for just walking back and forth to class it's easier to find what you're looking for with only 500-1,000 songs.

3. I guess I'm a bit of an apple fanatic.

The symbols for the buttons I can understand. Otherwise, I need pictures for this one...

I'm not saying "Y0U LIEZ" or anything like that, but I was just at the Apple Store and saw the Black iPod Nano. The click wheel was black, just like the rest of the nano (minus the back side )
