Re: What kind of car do you drive??

Ok, you've seen my 1968 Ford Mustang. If not look around in my post and you'll find it.

Well, here's pics I just took tonight of my 1997 Toyota Camry LE and my 1987 Chevrolet Caprice Classic Estate wagon, 9 passenger. The Camry is my primary transportation. The Caprice used to be but it's getting tired with 167,000 miles on it and now I keep it as a spare vehicle, plus it's my "truck" when I need to haul anything. I'm currently waiting for a stainless steel brake line set I bought for it last week to show up so I can replace the rotted line going to the rear. Now the brake lines won't rust anymore!

You may notice the Camry has "237" stickers on the hood. We did that as a test to see how well the vinyl adhesive sheets we (the team) made letters out of would hold up especially since I don't do anything to cosmetically take care of the Camry. So far so good and I've done nothing to try to preserve them. I do however keep the car on a strict maintance plan mechanically since I drive it alot and don't want to get stuck anywhere. Currently it has just over 95,000 on it.

Re: What kind of car do you drive??

Wow, talk about bringing back old threads...this one started in 2002...

I drive a gray/silver/[insert other close color here] 1990 Mazda MPV V6 4WD. Yes, a minivan with a V6 and 4WD. After reading TurboMinivan.com, I wanted to rice it out (do non-Californians use that term?). After some investigation, however, I think that the engine compartment is too small and I would probably have to remove the heavy 4WD system. Then I realized that it might be just as fun to change the suspension to go off-roading. But the engine would also need some upgrades because it doesn't have enough torque. That, and I have no money...

I kid you not, I drive almost the exact same car.
A Magenta (no, not purple, I tried to register it that way and got yelled at because apparently they were never made in purple those first few years) 97 Dodge Neon Coupe.

I am so embarassed. I hate driving in magenta almost as much as I hate wearing pink.

Re: What kind of car do you drive??

I just bought a new car ... well, it's a midsize SUV. But I have a good reason, really!

First of all, the vehicle is a 2002 Saturn VUE. It's black/silver, has a V6 engine and is equipped with AWD. It also has air conditioning, cup holders and is safe, unlike the '93 Saturn SL2 I was driving up until a month ago.

The reason for not buying a more fuel-efficient vehicle? I go to school in Houghton, Michigan. For those who don't know, it's way way up north, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It starts snowing in September, and doesn't let up until March. Our average yearly snowfall is between 250"-300" of snow. And don't get me started on the hills! They're crazy steep. So when I was vehicle-shopping, it needed to be something with 4WD or AWD, preferably with a larger engine and that was safer to drive than my tiny car. The VUE fit everything we were looking for (and I'm now a loyal Saturn customer - woo!) and it still gets pretty good gas milage; 18-20mpg city, and 25-28mpg highway.

Re: What kind of car do you drive??

Since people are bringing this back I'll update my post that I made wayyyy back on 05-22-2002.

My dad got a new car last fall, so when he started driving it this spring he gave me his old one. It's a '99 Intrigue that he managed to put 125k miles on, but it still looks really nice and runs just fine.

Re: What kind of car do you drive??

I thought I posted in this thread a long time ago, but I guess not.

Anyway, this summer I upgraded from grey 1987 Ford Tempo with < 100HP and a five speed manual transmission to a 2000 light blue Mercury Sable.

I decided enough was enough when it died coming home from work at 2:30 in the morning about three miles from my house without a cell phone to call home.

Now I just wish my Sable had a five speed manual transmission; I hate the stupid four speed automatic that is in it, the shift knob is in the center console already.

Re: What kind of car do you drive??

Well, as an update since I posted 2 weeks ago, I bought another car............for parts.

I had the word out I was looking to replace the tired Oldsmobile 307 in my Caprice wagon and I found someone who wanted to sell a 1984 Oldsmobile Delta 88 with a good running 307 in it and lower mileage (103k instead of the 167k mine has). It's a lot cheaper than buying a rebuilt long block or even rebuilding the current original motor in the Caprice. The other problem was even though my car is a Chevy it came from the factory with the Olds 307 (engine code "Y" in the VIN) which I found out means a Chevy 305 or 350 won't bolt in. They used a different bolt pattern and unless I wanted to swap out bell housings/transmissions/possibly also the drive shaft and exhaust...........more work and money than I wanted to get involved in.

Although the Delta 88 is in good shape and road worthy it has a major cosmetic strike against it and the reason I got it REAL cheap and why the person before me was having trouble selling it. It was an extra car that was done up for a Halloween display last year. The car was originally silver with a gray vinyl top but was sprayed black and had a black and purple leopard print top installed. The grill and some trim was removed and sprayed gold before being reinstalled. The car is pimp! I'll have to get photos of it since no one would probably believe me. It's not at my house since I don't have room for it, nor do I want to be seen driving it! It's several towns away from me where I'm stripping it before junking the remains but I'll have to remember to bring my camera one of the days.

I did find photos of a similar 1984 Delta 88 on Ebay which I attached so you'll atleast know what it looks like....................just instead of the maroon, picture it flat black with gold trim and a black/purple leopard print top!

Re: What kind of car do you drive??

Since I got my new engineering job I bought myself a new car, or as Katie says midsize SUV.

It's a 2005 Jeep Liberty. It's tan and is the Rocky Mountain Renegade version. It features 4WD, GPS Navigation and a Lowjack. So don't try to steal it
