Past Year Competitions?
As I sit here being depressed about the cancellation of Sweet Repeat, I realized it's not so much the lack of this particular competition more the fact that our 2005 robot really is done competing this time.
There are a lot of offseason competitions, but has anyone ever tried running a competition from a past year? I don't know how many teams still have their robots in tact and operable, but it seems like with enough warning there would be enough teams that could either refurbish the old robot or mod a new one to play an old game. I don't know what FIRST does with the old fields, or how the scoring system with work with old games, but it seems like it'd be a fun idea to try anyway. Comments? What old game would be the best to replay? And do enough teams have old robots? ~Allison |

Re: Past Year Competitions?
Personally, I'd love another crack at 2004. (We'd have to build a new robot for it, though.)
On the other hand, the 2001 game intrigues me. Any game where you don't score a single point for your alliance the whole competition and still are sought-after by other teams (and your team number isn't 71) sounds like fun to me. |

Re: Past Year Competitions?
At BattleCry in 2004 we had a rematch between the first place and second place teams from the 1992 competition (rules). We had to build everything from scratch and worked with people who were originally on the 1992 game to get the tethers built. Everyone had a fun time watching and we had plenty of corn left afterwards.

But really, that game has to be by far the least popular of any in at least the last 8 years. The theory was fun. Actually watching it could be kind of interesting. But it wasn't very dynamic at all. 4v0 killed it. As soon as the alliance pairings were done, with the exception of maybe a bracket, you knew exactly who was going to win, and who was going to lose barring a major disaster. |

Re: Past Year Competitions?
I loved last year's competition, because you learn new things every day, and every year. And they always say "Make today better then yesterday". I hope so, and I! (lol) always say..."It isn't fun if you make it fun" so find things to do, meet new people and learn new things! =D Hope to see you C.D'ers in this years Web Hug. =D
