A question
does anyone know if there are any rules regarding the way you can dress at first competitions? for example, is there a limit on how covered up you have to be. any answers to this would really help.

Re: A question
If you're looking to do something to the effect of shirtless team members with your team numbers on their chests, we asked FIRST about this in last year's Q and A and they said that this was not something that we should do. On the same track as everyone else, don't dress in a way that you wouldn't be confident wearing to school. Remember, you are representing not only your team, your school and your sponsors, but most importantly yourself. Choose wisely

Re: A question
uhh...a few of us on our team were wondering if it would be okay to wear red bikini tops and mardi gras beads. were an all girls team so we cant go topless obviously like some guys did at the uc davis regional this year. would that be allowed. oh and it would be worn with athletic shorts and fishnets.

PS. Remember that it's going to be a place with lots of people, in the winter, so it might get a bit cold with only a bikini top on too!!! |

Re: A question
Considering she's from sacramento, I'm doubting she'll be going to a terribly cold regional. Secondly, I'm pretty sure it's immaterial whether anyone else at the regional thinks they look good enough to wear bikini tops. Public fashion opinion has yet to cause the demise of mullets, after all.
Hopefully they've had a team discussion and determined that everyone that will be wearing one will be comfortable doing so in public. (You have right?) At any rate, the main point of whether there's a dress code at competitions is yet to be answered. There's obviously not an official dress code, as it's not in any of the rule books. Given that I've seen pictures of people in bikini tops in years past, any change to the unofficial dress code to outlaw this would be a recent thing. |

Re: A question
As far as I know about the dress code for a FIRST competition, you are not allowed to wear flip-flops in the pit area. You will get stopped by the pit administration if they see you.

Re: A question
OK,
Obviously I was thinking the other end of the spectrum. This is so much more a question for your mentors/teachers than it is for this forum. I do back Beth on the subject of safety. Exposed skin is a hazard for a variety of reasons not all of which relate to wearer/non-wearer. Last edited by Al Skierkiewicz : 08-10-2005 at 17:11. |

Re: A question
Well Beth, some of us certainly have the figure. Now where did I put those coconut shells...
Really, I'd apply the miller test. Take into account who you are going to contend with. It's bizzare, but some people may actually be upset about what you are wearing... as many of these people are perfectly rational and worthwhile people otherwise, you may not want to offend them. When in rome... EDIT: You guys are the fembots, hahahaha. I think I see the theme developing here... Last edited by phrontist : 08-10-2005 at 15:11. |
