Re: FREE Autodesk Inventor Training

I can say that this was a great workshop. The instructor knows his stuff and everyone was awake despite it was a whole day thing. The only thing was that he had problems at the hotel and couldn't bring in some visual aids and software. By the way, remember to ask for the inventor 10 software .

Re: FREE Autodesk Inventor Training

I had a few questions for those that have been there. Is it possible for two students to go without a teacher? Is it too late to register? And how advanced is the class?

Any information will be appreciated.

Re: FREE Autodesk Inventor Training

We had a Autodesk rep teach inventor at the 2003(? maybe 2004, can't remember) WRRF workshops. He was an excellent teacher, and made the workshop interesting for both people who had never used Inventor before, and those who wanted to get into the more advanced features.

If these training sessions are anything like ours was, I would highly reccomend going if you're at all interested in learning the ins and outs of Inventor.

Re: FREE Autodesk Inventor Training

Hey, the one at Glendale Community College is like only 10 minutes from where I live. I might want to go but I have some questions.

Does this training assume you have never used it before or is it for people who have used it but want to learn more? How in depth does it go? Does it get into parametric setups and stuff like that?

Re: FREE Autodesk Inventor Training

Anyone know if there is a deadline to sign up by for each individual class?

Say, the one in NH on December 10th for example?

When do the e-mails with the additional details usually go out. I registered a while back for the one at GCC on this Saturday but I haven't heard anything else like what room it will Be in or where to park. Does anyone know?

Re: FREE Autodesk Inventor Training

I had registered last week for the one in Atlanta, and had also never received an email. Re-registered today, and got an email this afternoon. If you still have not gotten one, I would register again.

Also, for anyone interested, there are still spots open in Atlanta if you want to register.

Re: FREE Autodesk Inventor Training

Well I went to the training and all I can say is WOW! This training was such a great opportunity to be provided. Thank you Autodesk!

I can't believe more people didn't take this class. The two of us from 696 and a couple people from the site were the only ones there!

I thought I knew quite a bit about Inventor but I still learned so much more. And Inventor 10, OMG this is the best piece of software I have come across in a LONG time. There is this new thing called "Design Accelerator" included that will make you gears and a bunch of other parts like iParts do but way better and it is all included in the install. And it has all sorts of amazing engineering calculators and formulas and everything. And now Stress Analysis is included! And the "Hole" tool is SO much better than in Inventor 8. And there is a new feature called Inventor Studio which will render a model to make it look more real and some other neat stuff (like simple animation).

All I can say is, Autodesk - you're amazing.

For those of you who didn't/don't attend one of these trainings, you are REALLY missing out. Please everyone, take advantage of this wonderful opportunity Autodesk has given you. If you think pencil and paper is good enough, or Autocad is good enough, just attend this training and become enlightened.

Now, for the little sort of disclaimer. The training does start off really basic. But the tutorials are just excellent, and even though I considered myself a proficient user, I still learned a lot of new things, even in the basic areas like sketching.

Re: FREE Autodesk Inventor Training

Unfortunately, they scheduled it on the same day as the SCRRF workshops. We will probably be putting in our reservations for the 2006 workshops this week. On the SCRRF end, the date was not changable by the time they announced the workshops.

I would have loved to go and would have except I had a few responsibilities at the workshops. I am thinking about a drive to Cupertino though ...

Thanks for the review. I knew you were going and wanted to ask and see if the drive would be worth it. It sounds like it will be.

Re: FREE Autodesk Inventor Training

In addition to scheduling issues there are also geographic barriers for many of us. Sorry to repeat from another thread ...
It is a shame that the training isn't available to a more geographically diverse group. Most of us won't have an opportunity to effectively utilize many of the enhancements. You really don't have the time to stumble through a new learning curve with that 6-week deadline bearing down. At a minimum an early distribution of the software would be a huge help. And some type of web-based sessions or tutorials would be greatly appreciated.
The best way to improve the Inventor competition submissions would be to enable greater competency among the students. While the workshops provided this year are certainly incredibly helpful and very much appreciated, they will only reach a tiny minority of FIRST participants ... Hello ... FIRST and Autodesk ... Are you listening ??
