VEX kit SALE/DISCOUNT !!

One of our mentors who was signing up a new VEX team received the following information from the VEX program coordinator in Manchester (sent to her from a Boston team - THANX Boston!).

"I went in to Radio Shack the other day to discover they are having a sale for teachers that runs until the end of October. For a starter kit there is a $100 discount at the register AND a $100 Radio Shack gift card after a mail-in rebate. One per household, and supposed to be a teacher to qualify. The store in Newington is where I found the sale. The salesman explained it should be available at all stores as an unadvertised special. They had it listed on the shelf when I walked in."

Well our team bought our vex stuff about 3 weeks ago to discover we had the coupons went back an got our discount..lol It was great!

I stopped in at our local friendly Radio Shack to ask about this teacher discount, and the salesguy did not hear of such a thing. He suggested I called the home office.

Hmmm.

... and Kyle, you're a good guy and all, but don't expect me to buy you your own Vex kit soon. Save your pennies.

I was a bit concerned about that possibility - I haven't had a chance to check with my local RS yet. I'll try tomorrow ...

I actualy work at radio shack and haven't heard of this sale how ever it may still exhist I would recomend like you said and call
1-800-the-shack. there is a vex line for teachers that they can connect you to. I dont know that number off the top of my head but they should be able to tell you if it exhists and if it does they can sell you the kits over the phone or prolly tell you how to get the discount in the store.

This was sent out by FIRST to clarify the issue

Hi teams,

I just wanted to follow-up with some additional information from the
team leader who sent me the information on the in-store special for
Vex kits. This was prompted when another team from Massachusetts
contacted the same store in NH and another store in MA, and was told
by the salespeople they knew nothing of the offer...

"I called the Newington store to clarify. The end result of the whole
deal is that you would get $500 worth of merchandise for $300. To get
the deal you would need to purchase a starter kit and $100 worth of
accessories at the register. This would be discounted to $300,
basically giving you the programming module for free. Then there is
an additional mail in rebate for a $100 gift card that will arrive in
8-10 weeks. Tom is the salesman I spoke with today in the Newington,
NH store. He did say that not everyone is familiar with how to
process the discount."
