CAM - Computer Aided Manufacturing
Currently my team 177, well me and a group of 2 people, are experimenting with cam(mastercam 9.1). One issues that we face is when we make mill cut hole cuts or square cuts we always get errors when we try to run it on are CNC.
If i remember right error had to with over lapping. when i make the cut i click main menu/operations/pocket/chain then select the hole... also i have tried main menu/operations/pocket/area is there any CAM 9.1 pro's out there that would be able to give me some assistance? and is there any free tutorials for mastercam X. we have a copy of it but have no tutorials to learn it. Thanks. Matthew Pietkevich Team 177 |

Re: CAM - Computer Aided Manufacturing
you may be using the wrong post processing (i think thats what its called) when you make the code to send to the CNC. i dont use the program much but that may be part of your problem

Re: CAM - Computer Aided Manufacturing
Is it giving you trouble when you are creating the tool path or not until you try to run it on the machine?
Are you able to successfully run through backplotting before you post the file? I'm not familiar with mastercam 9, I've actually been working on mastercam X at school the last couple weeks. I ran into a little trouble today on backplots overlapping on a part, all I did was delete and recreate the toolpath and it worked, I don't know why. As far as learning mastercam X - I had never used any mastercam until a few weeks ago. I'm quite familiar with autocad, so it was mostly just learning how to find and use the appropriate commands in mastercam. The manual that comes with mastercam X has two tutorials with it that you can run through to get a little familiarity with it, I mostly learned how to use it by messing around on it until i figured out how ot accomplish what I was after. I also worked with a tutorial book for mastercam 7, the actual commands don't seem much different - just exactly where to find them and how to use them is a little different. |

Re: CAM - Computer Aided Manufacturing
so i go to a black plot and it will draw the part. if i remember right there was some kind of overlapping error.
when i get a chance i will try to post the part on the forum. but its hard for me to remember to the part seeing how I'm in class right now lol.. and are team only has one computer with the program, and I'm not allowed to go and work in the room if I'm alone. are mastercam x only came with a tutorial for (9.1 Mill) and (lathe mastercam x) i want the masterX Mill Tutorial |

Re: CAM - Computer Aided Manufacturing
Sry i coulndt be of any help. I have never really used the program for anything. Whenever i try to use it i always end up more confused than when i started 3 hours ago. and to show how little the "program" knows i was trying to mill out the parts for something and im still not really to add all the tools in the tool list to the active project but anyways MasterCam decided it was going to MILL the whole shape out with a 1/2in center drill much to my dissapointment. I never got to try this "brillient" idea on a CNC but "If MasterCAM says it will work, it must work".
The preceding was a joke. I do not actully intend to attempt to possibly ruin a CNC and center drill. |

Matthew
I have been a mastercam used since ver 3 (Dos version)so if you have any questions regarding mastercam I can help. One thing you can try to do to help with your problem is don't pick chain ,pick single also try to delete multiple entities. sometime that can help. Also if your are still having problems ,please post the part and i can contact you and walk you through how to program it . Re: CAM - Computer Aided Manufacturing
I too can offer some assistance. I'm the chair to the CNC Committee on my robotics team. I'm also working on a booklet but if you want you can use my old website which a few things no longer work but it is still informative with making practice parts. The site is for 9.1 but i'm writing a booklet for X. Good luck.
