Talking Re: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

I'm pretty distraught about this whole thing because my school is hosting a LEGO competition and we have to prepare like everything, and it was an obvious choice of helping my team out versus Harry Potter....

...but I still feel distraught. I'm a sad girl.

Plus my family like hates HP because of all the pagan witchcraft. -.-

But hey...at least it's PG-13 this time...ooOOhhh

ok thats all... [/post]

Re: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Review time.....minor spoiler alert:

So I hear there's a new Harry Potter movie out. The fourth, Goblet of Fire. In a last minute decision, we decided to go see the midnight showing, both for my entertainment in the delirious night and the fact that probably the whole world would be talking about it the next day so I figured that I should stay ahead of the curve.

HPGOF is directed by Mike Novell or something like that, the third director for the series. You can tell that for GOF he enjoyed focusing more on the human interactions rather than the visual magic, which worked well for GOF, seeing as it is the book where Harry and Ron become emo children. However, my praise pretty much ends there. Though the book is very long to be condensed into 2 1/2 hours, it didn't quite justify the chaos that was the first third of the movie. To put it in short, the first part of the film was an utter train wreck, as the movie jumped from scene to scene with no transitions whatsoever, leaving the audience to fill in the blanks. Of course, it is generally understood that many people have read the book and can fill in the blanks, however, the film assumes too much of the reader's memorization of the novel and does not properly explain some of the finer aspects of the book that (at least I feel) are essential for the next film.

The music was pretty standard, nothing all that impressive. The choreography on the entrance scenes of Durmstrong and Beaubaxtons were top notch, I rather enjoyed them. I also enjoyed the entire scene from the Yule ball to the bath scene, which can only be described as "awkward." The film centered a little too much on teenage angst in my opinion, but it ended up working out.

In terms of acting...one, I don't like this new Dumbledore as much as the past one (yes, I realize he's dead). This headmaster didn't quite have the dignity, mannerisms, or voice that are associated with the character. Also, what was with tying his beard up? That was just silly. Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) reaffirmed her status as every HP geek guy's wet dream, and Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) had a convenient topless scene for the delight of the girls. I wish they had chosen a better Cho Chung, Katie Leung did not seem to quite fit the part.

On the whole however, this film was a fairly good family film, though elements of gore and death are much more present in this one than in the previous films. It is worth seeing at least once, however in my view, there was quite a bit of tweaking that needed to be done before release that didn't happen.

Rating: 4 out of 5 Flying Monkeys (c)

Re: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

My Quick Thoughts: (Spoilers)

Just got back from seeing it. Best one yet, by far.

The beginning was too short, but the movie was pushing it as far as length anyway. Maybe there will be an extended version on DVD?

But the movie hit what the book is mainly about the most - The Triwizard Tournament. And it did this well. The dragon scene was pretty much on par with the book, except for flying around on the Hogwarts ground. I thought that was a nice touch, as flying around in a small arena has been done in previous movies i.e. quidditch. The 2nd task was perfect. Went right along with the book. The 3rd and final task was a bit weird. They could have made the maze scene a little longer, with some actually obsticles besides the maze itself.

But oh did the movie hit the spot at the end with Voldemort's restoration. I heard a lot of people tearing up and sniffling through it - a very well done scene.

I don't see why so many people seem to be dissing Katie Leung. Her role wasn't big at all. It's tiny infact. I think she did a good job for the 30 seconds of dialog that she had.

Looking past the differences between the movie and the book, I think the movie was the best yet and recommend everyone to go see it. Right now.

Re: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Just got back a bit ago from seeing the movie with Seth....I LOVED IT. They did focus on the Tournament well and it was just amazing.

I loved the action...I kept gripping Seth's arm and jumping at each surprise that came around.

Well done movie. Best yet!

Still sad about the fact that the dude playing Dumbledore now is just...too young seeming. Gah!

Re: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

AMAZING MOVIE. But having just come from a FLL competition before seeing it, FIRST was on my mind.

THE STUDENTS AT HOGWARTS AND BEAUBATONS AND DURMSTRANG ALL DISPLAY GRACIOUS PROFESSIONALISM! YAY!

Much happiness. Voldemort's nostrils were kinda interesting. Hermione kept getting WAY too emotional, but Ron and Harry were good. Cho wasn't that great though. Katie Leung doesn't exactly fit the part. Fleur was good, but she only ever said about two things. Same for Krum.

GREAT MOVIE.

WARNING! WARNING! DON'T READ IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN MOVIE!!!!

Saw the movie last night with my wife. She cried when the student died
Who else, besides me, thought the way Ron all of a sudden was mad at Harry was a little crazy? Going to the Quidich championship, they were best friends. After the camp was destroyed, he showed relief at finding Harry. At school, he was mad at Harry for awhile. I understand they had to save some time, but really

Who liked seeing Malfoy turned into a ferret

Tri-Wizard tournament was great!

Re: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

I finally got a chance to run out and see this -- though I wasn't able to get a ticket to the IMAX theater and instead had to settle for Cinerama. Cinerama is huge, mind you, but it's not IMAX.

It's a great movie, whether compared to the others in the series or movies in general. I will see it again (in IMAX, next time!) for certain.

I enjoyed everything about it, but particularly its pacing. It does a fantastic job of shifting its mood from light-hearted teen angst to intense, emotional dramatics.

I haven't read this novel, so I can't compare it to that, nor do I think I would want to. After enjoying the first three films, I sat down with the first three novels and read much of them clean through. They are children's books, no matter what people say, and I found them to be both boring and simplistic. The movies are far more entertaining.
