USB I/O for macs?
Does anyone know of any I/O boards that are USB and work on mac? Something like a control board where you can hook it up program it and have it do things just like the Innovation FIRST ones?

Another easy answer is the LEGO Mindstorms RCX, but the same "cheat" applies with the IR tower (comes with the kit!). -Danny |

Re: USB I/O for macs?
Rock on! Other Mac users!
Edit: Oops, Misread your post... You can use these steps to program the big robots, or if you want to you can go purchase any 9Pin board and use this in the same way. I presume you are using VPC or something to that effect? If so, you can go down to frys and buy any USB -> 9Pin adapter that says MacOSx on the box (which is most of them). Install the software, plug in the adapter and configure the port in VPC. VPC Configuration is as follows: Under "Settings..." select USB. If USB is disabled, Enable USB. Select the USB Adapter in the list and click the Check box. Then insert the CD again and install the software on your Virtual OS. These steps enable both MacOSx and Windows to see the device (which is important). Hope this helps, -Devon http://www.robodox.org/ Last edited by Ferazel2001 : 22-11-2005 at 21:32. |

Bah! Virtual PC sucks! I tryed it... it laged like hell. I don't like PC stuff, I need something that does mac. It's like either a "naked board" nothing like Lego mindstorm, or vex.

Re: USB I/O for macs?
There are several USB data acquisition devices avaialble for Mac OS.
National Instrumements makes a full line of products. http://zone.ni.com/devzone/conceptd....701F007A8B40#1 If you only need digital inputs, check out the X-Keys USB Matrix board: http://www.xkeys.com/ Another to look into is the Phidgets products. I see they now have MacOS support in beta. http://www.phidgets.com/ |
