Matt Millen is the one who should be fired. Can you say 'most incompetent GM ever?"

A sportswriter in the SF Chronicle had a good analogy today--something along the lines of "How is it Mooch's fault that Millen gave him spoiled meat, gummi bears, and rotten carrots and asked him to make stew?"

It's not his fault that Harrington sucks. It's not his fault that the front office is as bad or worse than the 49'ers, and it's not his fault that the Lions have drafted like jerks and picked WR's 3 straight years in the first round.

To be honest, while I feel bad that he got fired, he's getting pad $11 million to take a long vacation--and he'll surely be picked up by somebody, whether it be NFL or college. Anywhere but Detroit has to be looking pretty good right about now.

Not to mention the fact that the team sounds about ready to fall apart, with the near open mutiny of Dre Bly and Jeff Garcia.

Re: NO MORE MOOCH!!!!

I'd have fired the GM first. It's not Mariuchi's fault the players he coaches stink.

EDIT: IOW, what Cory said.

Detroit is in a horrible situation. I don't think firing mariucci will solve many things. Thy have so many issues that it is hard to pinpoint where tehy are coming from. I think it is going to take some time for them to straighten things out up in Detroit.

Re: NO MORE MOOCH!!!!

i think it was stupid that they fired him. the only thing i didn't like about mooch was his west coast offence. that is the worst football for the NFC North. we need to be smash mouth like the bears. thats the team to beat. they need to get rid of millen, tollner, the offensive line coach, and a bunch of those other crappy coaches we have. we need to get rid of garcia and harrington and grab a veteran QB in the off-season. we need to draft some offensive linemen and not a another rookie quarterback...unless we can get lionert. we should get young because of the kind of quarterback he is. to win the NFC North, you need a pocket passer. not a scrambling quarterback. we need to stop making dumb decisions in drafting WR's, and WR's that haven't played for a year, then not play them. there is a lot of problems in d-town. we need to get a coach, now, like mike martz or $@#$@#$@#$@# vermel(sp).

If you want to beat a smash mouth team by smashing mouths, you need to be better at smashing mouths then that team. It would take several years of drafting smash mouth players and picking up smash mouth free agents, and coaching in a smash mouth way to beat a smash mouth team by out smash mouthing them.

The better way to beat a smash mouth team is to exploit their weaknesses, not go right at their strengths.

For the record, the only team that fits that description in the North is the Bears, and that's because of the D.

The only thing the other teams have in common is that they get smashed in the mouth on a fairly regular basis.

Everything starts with a solid Oline. If the lions had one, Harrington would still be subpar, but better, and Jones would have had an excellent year.
