Re: Looking Back: 2005 Game Hint

I thought Pi was also a baseball player who completed a triple play or something like that.

Re: Looking Back: 2005 Game Hint

I remembered this post from the 2005 game hint thread and found it just now. It seems to cover everything.

-the amethist clue- amethist's molecular structure is in the form of a tetra.
-george burns and john neun- the both did tripple plays, the name of this year's game.
-"If you look and you will see" pertains to the fact that the robots can see this year
-"Between Pi, You, Me."- Pi = 3.14ish, You and Me = 2, between 3.14 and 2 is 3, the number of teams in an alliance this year.
-"Something at the VA Science center reminded me about next year's game." - In an exhibit, there was a pendulum that swayed back and forth in the sand, the structure holding it up was a tetra.

Re: Looking Back: 2005 Game Hint

So, perhaps the key to unlocking the 2006 clue, when and if it is released, is researching every questionable and/or suspicious word and fragment within the clue.

Last year's was pretty darn good. I went too far into my research (titles of songs on the album "Sargeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"). Perhaps I'll stay a bit closer to home this time around.

Then again, if the mastermind reads this, then he'll make the answer to the clue as far out as the research I did last year, which would then defeat the purpose of me changing my research and clue unlocking patterns.

So, in that case, research is key. Just be careful. Game objects, player quantities, anything, will be fair game for encoding.

It seems as if the hints usually have a relation to the game but not nearly as much as we would have thought or hoped because afterwards we are always like "well, what did this part of the hint mean, I didn't see any reference to it in the game" or sometimes "oh, that's all it means." Does anyone agree? I think it would be a good idea if every part of the hint had a very in depth, but also very clear reference to a portion of the game.

Re: Looking Back: 2005 Game Hint

Ironically when people look way too deep they sometimes get the right answer.

Example: George Burns and John Neun got their triple plays against Cleveland. What's Cleveland famous for? Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. What's it shaped like? A pyramid.

Re: Looking Back: 2005 Game Hint

The clues they give will never tell us the game. What it does is get us excited and thinking for kickoff. The maximum you could decrypt from the hint they gave us is 3 teams per side. Who would have thunk about tetrahedrons and making triple plays?

I dunno, maybe several people in this thread. People like Corey Balint and after that several people ran with his idea.
Interesting stuff to read and be like, Wow how could we not have seen that coming!
