Re: Top FIRST States 2006

OK, so I felt a little geekier than usual this evening, and decided to look into FRC 2006 registration statistics. Using crude techniques in Excel, I count:

4 teams (48,302,1114,1503, all are registered for the Championship) that have registered for 4 events,

48 teams (1,4,16,25,33,34,45,47,56,65,66,67,68,71,74,79,93, 103,111,126,157,175,176,180,188,190,233,254,287,33 7,341,343,358,365,378,395,469,519,573,703,716,772, 830,1319,1403,1507,1511,1675) that have registered for 3 events,

173 teams that have registered for 2 events, and

915 teams that have registered for 1 event.

4x4 + 3x48 + 2x173 +1x915 = 1421 total registrations for all 2006 FRC events including the Championship.

Of the four-event teams, two are from Canada, one is from Michigan, and one is from California. Of the three-event teams, 13 are from Michigan, 6 are from New York, and 4 are from Indiana; it is interesting to note that 41 of these 48 teams first competed in 2001 or earlier. So experience seems to be correlated with the ability to muster support for participating in more events. And it would be natural to conclude that Michigan leads all states in supporting teams to participate in FIRST events.

This count does not include 301 pending (unpaid) registrations.

I believe in intuition and inspiration. Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution. It is, strictly speaking, a real factor in scientific research.
