Lightbulb Idea: E-mail Exchange between Teams?

Just a thought i had a moment ago: there are many teams from our regional event I know absolutely nothing of, and even several veteran teams I have no contact with as well.... Perhaps the following idea has already been thought up of, so I would be interested in hearing on the results of similar attempts:

Would creating an e-mail exchange between teams (particularly those competing at the same regional event) be, at any extent, an interesting idea? For example, I was thinking of perhaps creating something similar to an e-card with brief, yet relevant information on our team (with greater focus on the social aspect, and not necessarily on the technical/robotics part), and the idea would be to distribute these e-cards to team leaders, mentors, etc. who would further forward them to other team members. All this with the objective of familiarizing with future alliances.

Not that it's any major advantage, but when i come to think of it, I, for one, know that if perhaps I had received a private e-mail message with interesting information on a team, I would at least remember their name at the Regional event. And I would certainly keep an eye on them just for that simple fact. Veterans may not find this "exchange" too useful, but for unknown rookie teams this may be at the least a bit beneficial, politically speaking.

It's just that several teams haven't got their website up and running...and many don't even plan on doing so. The least we could get is some info on their basic "profile".

I've got tons of other things on my mind regarding this E-mail Exchange, but I'd like to get some feedback at this point...particularly from those that have tried anything similar to this.

Thanks...
and best of luck to all teams this season!

Re: Idea: E-mail Exchange between Teams?

yeah but i think Camila is talking more about ACTIVELY getting teams in contact, rather than simply setting up an easy networking solution. I think it's a great idea, but does FIRST post a list of all the teams attending a given regional?

Well that's actually a great start, but how many teams, exactly, have added their e-mail, how often do they really check it (if any do at all!), and who has access to this database of registered teams? Just a thought...

If anyone would like to help out with suggestions and talk over this with further detail, get in touch...!

What else?

Re: Idea: E-mail Exchange between Teams?

Team 192 had a very similar idea where a member of their team would become your pen pal or something like that and you'd e-mail back and forth. It was fun while I did it but then I got too busy to be writing long messages.

well it depends on the team you try to get in contact with, I am pretty sure however that most of the teams will have a response within 2-3 days or so at the MOST.

As for access to the database of registered teams, can you clarify which database?

YAY That's more like it
The problem is that there is a relatively small number of teams registered in the DB...in this case, however, the system's already been set up, so all that's left to do is some marketing. But that's exactly what I'm having a hard time working on: getting help from the right people. It's no use having a great source if there are no means of finding it, unfortunately...
