Go to Post remember FIRST is just an extracuricular activity in which most of the work is technichan's work...what gets you into college are good grades and a good course load...as my mom always said, "getting good grades gives you the freedom to chose to be whatever you want and go wherever you want" - abeD [more]

*This actually did happen to our team a few years ago. There was about 18 or so inches of snow during the day while we were working at the school shop, and when we decided to try to leave, the team could not get the doors to open because too much snow had piled up against them. It was too late at night (about 2 AM) to call someone's family to dig us out, so our team cleared off the work tables and slept there for the night.

add this: If you've ever been hit by a deer, wrecked your car, on the way to the meeting, and still arrived on time.

and this: If you've ever begged the only tech guy at the firstPLACE during the off season to give you a tour, AND GOT ONE, because you flew 800 miles to see it.

and this: If you worked for months in preperation for the start of competition your rookie year (and your teams rookie year) to learn the programming language required. (P-BASIC for me.. and I was the only programmer)

(all are me).

Re: You know you've been in FIRST too long...

When you have actually offered to sell bodily fluids and or organs so you could go to nationals (multiple members of my team)

If you have ever looked disappointed at a christmas tree because it didnt have a tetra on it

If you have ever seen how fast you could stack your mothers rubbermaid containers

If you and your mentors have email conversations regularly at 3AM

If youve ever had to set up an alternate gmail account just because your other one was full of robotics shtuff (Me)

If youve ever asked a girl what team she is from and what division she is in as a pickup line (2004-05 Nationals)

If you have ever thought of an ultimate christmas gift as a pair of dean kamen worn jeans and matching denim jacket

If you have ever considered denim fashionable for that matter

If you have ever bragged about the number of mySQL databases your host supplies

If when you here the word woodstock, Woodie flowers instantly comes to mind

If you've ever offered to shave your head if your team gets their 3D animation in on time. (Greg Owens)

If you have ever brought a backpack to regionals and nationals just to fit your 2 2 liter bottles of mountain dew in

If you've randomly started asking people to deciver what really is "a shovel's show"

If you've ever been forced into robotics via peer pressure

If you keep a bundle of zip ties with you in your back pocket, just in case...

In engish, you've been downgraded for putting the word 'first' in all caps

If you've ever gotten off on a tangent about why dean kamens hair never moves

If when hearing the words red white and blue, you think FIRST over america

Youve gotten addicted to playing your teams computer simulation for that year's game

If when saying the ABC's, you shout the letter F, I, R, S, and T as they come in that order

If youve considered buying a laptop just so you could make scouting easier this year

If youve ever been working on your teams website at school, looked at the clock and said to yourself, shoot, i have school in 3 hours...

If after winning a regional, you wore your medal around school and bragging about how you double stacked on the center goal with 2 seconds left to all of your non-FIRST friends

If youve ever gotten in a fight with a band-geek that FIRSTies are cooler than Bandies

Re: You know you've been in FIRST too long...

You do all of your "homework" in class because you never go "home" and then think that that is a pretty good excuse.

You gather a crowd because you get overly excited because of an Inventor drawing.

The janitor stays as late as you because he's fixing the holes that your robot put in the walls.

Kill switches are an everyday lifesaver.

Your mother saves money on groceries because you eat all of your meals at school.

Re: You know you've been in FIRST too long...

When you told someone trying to recruit you for a college that e-mail is the best way to get in touch with you because who knows when you'll be home with FIRST season starting in 3 days.

When you introduce yourself by team number, team name and offices held rather than by first name.

When you turn to your fellow build mate and ask for the 'persuader' (hammer) so you can 'convince' this joint to work correctly.
