Re: HOOK 'EM HORNS!!!!

I still think that Vince Young is highly overrated.

But, I do have to say that they played fantasically.
Unlike other USC supporters, I back Pete Carroll in all the plays that he called.
While they didnt turn out in their favor, I still think they were the right calls.

USC's defense has underperformed all year.
It finally came back to haunt them in the end.

Re: HOOK 'EM HORNS!!!!

So I guess 467 yards by himself makes him overrated. 3 touchdowns doens't make you good either. I think he will be better than Mike Vick. And I am a huge Falcons fan.
But I do agree that Pete Carroll made the right calls. In those situations I would make the same calls. On that 4th and 1 with LenDale White, I was very surprised that the Texans held up.

I felt that it was really odd how the reporters ran to Carroll and Leinhert (sp) right after thegame. I guess they couldn't get any Texans that weren't going crazy.

Re: HOOK 'EM HORNS!!!!

Try translating him to the Pros though.
He is slower and bigger than Vick. Trying to avoid the 5'8" Strong Safety on a college team is much different then the 250 LB 6'3" Linebackers that are gonna be used on Spy plays in the Pro's.
By all means I'm not saying he is a bad player, but for all the hype he is given, he is overrated. Lee Corso called him the best player he has ever seen in Football.
Yeah, he is a good scrambler. Yeah he has a decent arm.
But try and translate it into the NFL.

What happens when he tries to scramble against the Linebackers and ends that are faster and bigger than him, instead of the 20 yard pickups, you are gonna see short pickups or him getting hurt. With his size, he is a big target, and most likely, not the best candidate to be running the ball.
Im also not a fan of the Mike Vick type player. To me a quarterback should be used for passing and the eventual scramble if need be.

Right now, if he declares for the draft, I rate the quarterbacks eligible as follows.
Leinart, Troy Smith(OSU), Young, Michael Robinson(PSU).

Re: HOOK 'EM HORNS!!!!

I think that USC made the right calls
I also think that if Young decides to not come out this year he will win the heisman next year
Young is one of the best scramblers ever
I dont think that he will be like Vick or (people dont remember the originator) Cunningham but he will be really high up there...if he is drafted as a QB
I think that if he goes to a team that is going to keep him for one, and has a quarterback already, he will become a WR
happens all the time
I think that Young is not over rated
I think that he was under rated
I thought that he should have won the Heisman this year
But thats just me
The Heisman is for the most explosive player in that year....he was the most explosive player from the games that I watched
If Bush is superman then why didnt he get 467 yards and three TDs
I am a fan of both USC and Texas so I am not just bashing on Texas
I mean, I wanted the lions to draft Leinart and get Pete Carroll as coach
that would have rocked
but we cant get everything we want haha
I think that the better team has won the championship
just wait till next year when Penn St wins the nats haha
hey i can hope now cant i?

Re: HOOK 'EM HORNS!!!!

I can not be convinced that Young should've won the Heisman.
It comes down to the fact that the Heisman is given to the Most Outstanding college player, not the most valuable.
It is the same type of thing as the MLB.
If it was the most valuable player, it definitely is Young, because without him, Texas is probably in the Teens Rank wise.

I also think you cant compare a QB to a RB.
Young touched the ball everytime the Texas offense ran a play.
He had the option of passing, running or handing off each time.
Bush would get the ball and have to run it.
Thats it.

Bush also had to split his time with White.
Before the game, I had been telling my friends that White is the bigger threat in the game, because he was not being paid that much attention to, compared to Bush.

Now with him coming out of college and being turned into a different position player, im not sure about.
I was discussing this earlier today with my friends, and its kind of hard to decide.
Options:
RB-Way too big of a player.
WR-Doesnt have the hands or speed(top speed that is).
TE-Again, the hands, and I highly doubt he would be used for blocking.
LB-He's got the size and speed for a Linebacker. He also knows how a QB thinks.

He will be a Quarterback in the NFL. It is very hard to see him elsewhere.

Now the question is, if you are so high on Young, who do the Texans take #1.
Right now, I am thinking the Titans are going to want to get Leinart if they take a QB. Leinart gets to reunite with Norm Chow. Therefore, I see them either trading with the Saints or staying put and the Saints taking Young.

Texans end up with Bush. There will be talk about Young/Leinart, but I think they have invested too much into Carr and will keep him.
Saints take Young. The style Young plays is very flashy and attractive to the owners. He will make the team big bucks, which ultimately the Saints will be looking for over anything.
Titans take Leinart. Too good a fit not to take him.

Then if White declares, where does he go?

First of all, I have to go dido with you on Corso. I already have too much beef with that man from the whole '05 season to not - dislike that statement either. I caught him saying it this morning, and I just shook my head in distaste.

Second of all, it was a very good game. I enjoy thoroughly watching well played games. Lots of good calls, and lots of not so good calls. However, I don't agree with anything in the current (or near future) set up of BCS. Just because they were "ranked" number one and two does not mean they could not be beaten by other teams. (This is not biased, I would take any match-up, non-PSU, as long as it was fair and followed a play-off.)

Lastly, I have to call you up on Robinson. I don't see him being drafted. Pusz would deffinatly go before Robinson if he is "ok", and choses to leave a year early.

Re: HOOK 'EM HORNS!!!!

I believe that the Saints will try and get Leinart, but Linart will pull an Eli and refuse to go.
I think Young has the arm to compete. His speed isn't all that, but for a QB it is pretty good.
Ok, so if you were a GM of a NFL team in the need of a QB and Vince Young was a senior, and so was Leinart, who would you rather have with out pulling in all these other quesitons about who the WRs, TE and RBs were going to be?

I say packers should go for white if he goes in or lienhart, they aren't having much faith in Rodgers and are actually looking into Phillip rivers.

Re: HOOK 'EM HORNS!!!!

i think that the saints are tired of the mobil QB
they want a pocket passer now
here is my unnoficial first 5 draft pick list:
texans-bush
saints-lienart
titians-aj hawk
packers-young..as trade bait
49ers-white

teams that dont have a mobile QB are not going for them any more
you can't win championships with mobil QBs
you win with pocket passers
if you dont beleive me look at the past super bowl winning QB..all pocket passers
it should be intresting though haha

Re: HOOK 'EM HORNS!!!!

Regardless to the matter of being tremendous athletes, I cannot stand USC. I think their swagger came back to bite them when it counted the most. No three-peat, Bush not being the "x-factor", and for Texas to finally break thier big game loss history was huge. You gotta admire a team, or heck, even person for rallying from 12 points down against USC, to win it. Being fairly new into the realm of enjoying collegiate football, I have a lot to learn; however, my opinion is clearly my own. I think this Rose Bowl was well played, and the victory went to the team who is truely "top-notch". I also think that the heisman should be awarded after the championship, that way someone like Vince Young who made such a big statement, would have one more game to prove themselves. I also think Reggie Bush let the Heisman ego take over, thus hampering his playing.

just my $.02, so dont bash me
GO Texas & PSU!!
