Re: Size of foam balls please

We didn't measure them, but we did notice that they get "bruised" at times.
More importantly, did anyone weigh their ball today?

The ball we received was a little less than 7". I believe the weight of the ball was like 183 grams....

The one we measured came in at smaller than 7 inches. It would be good to know for certain if they're all slightly smaller or if we got a freak ball.

Re: Size of foam balls please

Has anyone considered the size of these foam basketball after repeatedly used in matches after matches?

Assuming teams will build components to harvest lots of balls from the playing field, and have some sort of ball shooter like the one seen in the kickoff's webcast about safety, these balls are going to be pushed around, ran over (maybe), compressed repeatedly match after match.

It is very possible that these balls will become smaller as they get used more and more.

Not just smaller, but oblong too.

Re: Size of foam balls please

We just had a discussion about that tonight as well. There is also another possibility of humidity combined with the wear and tear of regular usage affecting the shape of the balls. Back in 2000 when 188 went to Florida, I was told the shape of the balls varied enough to make it difficult to pick up compared to the drier, but much colder weather in Toronto =P. Thats just another thought to take into consideration.

It's also possible they won't be perfectly round after repeated use and abuse they will see on the field. Something to consider depending on how you design a ball pick up.

Re: Size of foam balls please

My team never got a ball in our kit, and while we are going to report that it was missing to first, we haven't really seen them up close yet, so we were wondering what the outer shell of these things are made of, is it solid plastic, or is it the more permeable stuff?
Thanks in advance.

The "shell" of the balls is basically a somewhat thicker type of foam. It is flexible, can be scraped, dented, dinged, or bruised, but *almost always* springs back to its original form. There are a bunch of pictures of the balls on this page on my team's website.

Re: Size of foam balls please

from prier experiance with these balls, they can tear fairly eaisly if handled in the wrong way. also hope you ordered your extras fast because websites like childsplay.com sold out of the balls in about 2 hours or so, so be sure to find um quick, b/c lots of places are gonna be sold out for a while. and like DCA Fan stated, "I have a feeling that we're about to deprive the world of Poof balls for a while." and there is some questioning if the poof soccer ball is the same as the basketball. im pretty sure there about the same weight and react the same way as the basketballs, i mean they're made of the same materials, just a slightly different cover/mold.
