I will refer you to this post here:

And if that's not what you mean, you actually mean the CMU Green tracking camera, then

See this thread:

Re: Google camera

More info on the CMU Camera (The Green color tracking one) can be found here:

http://www.firstwiki.org/CMUcam2

And again, the Google Camera (Not the CMU Camera) is just a simple digital camera (to take photographs with) given to all teams by Google as a donation.

Thanks Google!

Re: Google camera

ya that google digital camera is really crappy. so i sugest if you want good res photos to use a different digital camera or get the photos put on disk when you take um to get developed. but google is an awesome sponsor to have. i mean donating 1100+ digital cameras is sweet. GOOGLE ROCKS! and if anyone has a prob with the picasso software included you can download from google.

Ya well they did have to donate a lot of them, it's not like we were all about to get a Canon Rebel or anything like that. Nice gesture on behalf of Google, but yeah, I'd recommend getting a better camera if at all possible.

EDIT: Now that the shock from bad news has worn off a bit. I would like to appologize for what I have said last night. I am still working on controlling my mood swings so please forgive me. ::Quotes herself before she got the bad news:: "2.1 MP is way more than enough for websites! "

Re: Google camera

Might I suggest something?

Don't say something in the Chief Delphi Forum that you won't say to the person in real life.

Are you willing to come to one of the west coast regionals, sponsored and supported by Google, walk up to their CEO or any of the Google Engineers who are helping with FIRST teams, look them in the face, and say "This is really crappy, give me something better".

Are you willing to gamble the reputation of yourself and your team because of something you should've think twice about before saying? Think about what you are saying here. Google has no reason to give anymore than what they already gave, and every reason to except our deepest thanks for the things they already gave. They didn't owe us anything when they decided to support FIRST, they did it because they feel it will provide a worthwhile, meaningful experience for you.

Tell them you don't want it, because they will gladly give it to someone else who might actaully benefit from it.

Think about that for a minute. And I expect you to do the right thing as soon as you thought about it.

Re: Google camera

Well certainly, if I were to go up to Larry Page in competition, I would thank him for his sponsorship in FIRST and Google's donation of cameras. In no way am I (nor anyone else here I don't think) saying that it was a bad thing, we're saying that if you have access to something better to use it. It would benefit everyone in the end, as they get to see higher resolution images if your work. Might I also recommend that the cameras Google gave us be put to use with rookie members of each team, giving them a chance to document their experiences for the first time. Just a thought.

Re: Google camera

we used it today it seemed pretty cool actually. something that's simple and documents. You don't need high-res photos to document planning meetings and take pictures for badges. It was a very good contribution. TY GOOGLE!!

Re: Google camera

I think the camera is awesome. One has to look at the broader pciture; google will also be proividing a kind of image forum for all the images to be posted.

Secondly, we have to be greatful. Even if the camera is 30 bucks, multiply that by the number of teams and this works out to be around $40,000 dollars. Additionally think about all the engineers mentors e.t.c which will be provided. Also, corporations look at the long term, meaning they want to sponsor FIRST year after year not just once; hence budgeting comes in.

If you want more involvement from a sponsor, show them that you really appreciate there help and get them more involved. I am pretty sure google will be one of the forefront sponsors as time goes on.
