Sure it is, you can have 1, 2, 3, or 4 wheel drive, or even more! Good luck in your design! --Mike |

sure can, you can use whatever motors in the kit you want in whatever configuration your mind can imagine.

Re: 4WD, is it legal?
Yes, you can. The kit transmission is designed to be able to do this. In past years, teams have done two, four, and six motor drivetrains. With this kit you could even do eight with some fabrication. There is a white paper about the common drivetrain designs in the technical section that you might want to read.

Re: 4WD, is it legal?
Yes. The gearbox instructionmanual found on IFI site will demonstrate one way to do it.

Re: 4WD, is it legal?
Check out the picture gallerys of past robots. You can get a lot of good drive train ideas from there. As far as motors go you can put as many as you want per side but just make sure that you have enough motors to do other things on the robot and that you don't overload the main or the smaller circuit breakers. Also there are certain design issues with some of the different motors that have to be looked at. Read the different threads on here. Theres a good one about the Fisher-Price motors thats informative for rookie teams.
Good luck ~Kirk |

Re: 4WD, is it legal?
In general, you can do whatever you like in the construction of FIRST robots. The main rules, the ones that anyone designing the robot will need to know by heart, are:
