WinXp Registry error during install

Hi everyone

While installing LabView 8 on my laptop, I encountered the following error:

Error1402 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\LVDB.Applicati on\CLSID
Could not open Key

I am using an VPR Matrix 175b4, ~3 years old, with a 1.7g Mobile P4 and have WinXP SP2 installed. It's got a 30gig HD and I'm trying to install it into a 10gig partition, that also holds the WinXP

Any ideas?

Thanks
Eric

Fortunately for you this has been a well-researched problem on the NI Developer Zone. Good Luck!

Thanks Danny!

...looks like I get to play with regedit. I'll try it out tonight.

Re: WinXp Registry error during install

OK! ...part way there. Over the weekend we successfully loaded LabView8 and the Device Drivers on 2 student laptops and a Team desktop. Then, after following through with Danny's suggestion I was able to make a change in the registry, and load LabView 8 on my laptop. However, when I tried to install the Device Driver CD #1, I got this error from setup.exe:

The instruction at 0x%08lx referenced memory at 0x%08lx. The required data was not placed in memory because of an I/O error status at 08%08lx.

A quick search of 08%08lx on the NI forum pages revealed a similar problem with someone trying to load VISA. But the suggestion was to download a new version of VISA. That doesn't particularly relate to reading the CD...?

Anyone else encounter this?

Eric

Are you trying to install directly from the CD? Or are you copying the contents of the CD to the hard drive and installing from there? If you are installing from the CD right now, I would try installing from the hard drive.

I was trying to install directly from the CD. I'll try copying the contents to my HD and go from there.

Thanks!

Also realize we've gotten numerous reports of issues with some types of CD-ROM drives reading the Driver CD - it could be due to a bad batch of CDs from our duplication center, teams who have attempted to bit-copy the CDs have had miserable results which could point to bad disks.

Installation of the Driver CD is not required - the Driver CDs contain a lot of drivers that US-FIRST teams don't need unless you've got an NI-Scope or NI-Motion controller laying around, for example. Most teams only need to install LabVIEW and NI-VISA, while NI Pilot Program teams need the additional download of NI-DAQmx.

Is NI-VISA installed by the Labview 8 installation, or do we need to download and install it from the net? If we must download it from the net, which version should we get for Windows XP Pro? There are more versions at this http link than you can shake a stick at...

From the ni.com home page you can select Drivers and Update>> Current Versions which brings you to this page
http://digital.ni.com/softlib.nsf/we...de =132060_US

From here you can find the most current driver versions. You can find NI-VISA under Instrument Connectivity. There you can find the driver for your operating system. Or the following link has the most current driver for Windows XP
http://digital.ni.com/softlib.nsf/we...de =132060_US

If you need DAQmx from the first link you can find Multifunction DAQ under Measurement Hardware. The following link has NI-DAQmx 8.0 for Windows 2000/NT/XP
http://digital.ni.com/softlib.nsf/we...de =132060_US

Depends on what OS you're running on.

If you're on the PC (Windows variants) the LabVIEW 8.0 installation does NOT install NI-VISA; for PC, the model we adhere to involves installing the Driver CD which includes NI-VISA (or install NI-VISA seperately). The Driver CD contains all of the Windows drivers you would ever need for all of our products, so if you don't want (or can't) install the Driver CD you can seperately download the components you need to speed installation (turn off your virus scanner for faster installs!).

If you're on the Mac, LabVIEW 8.0 DOES install NI-VISA because the Mac does not have a Driver CD.

If you're looking for a smaller download on the PC, or you're looking to install for a Mac, NI-DAQmx Base also provides the base functionality needed to use the NI USB-6009 DAQ device. If you have other DAQ devices from National Instruments, the DAQmx Full Edition may be required to use the device; check the readme file to determine if your device is supported under DAQmx Base.
