Re: Team 538 Bonding time

Paint ball is actually pretty popular in my networking class. On the weekends one of the two instructors goes out with some of the highschool students and some of the adults students and they go play, and then the teacher brags about how bad he pwn3d them. So seeing it work there as a bonding exeperince means it might work for a robotics teams. If your anything like my team, your team mates are pretty close allready almost like family (or actual family in my case). But don't count on it working every time expeically if somone gets beat alot then they might feel left out or whatever. But im gonna stop rambling now.

Re: Team 538 Bonding time

All these sound so nice, but I think I'm gonna go with paintball. If my team was going to do something, I would have to vote for paintball. I've only gone once, but it was awsome. I only got nailed twice in about 5 games. First in the neck(no neck guards, so it hurt a lot, got over it quick though, but everyone was making fun of me for a while, because they said it looked like a hickey) and once in the left eye, i saw eye and not goggle because it blocked the whole eye, it was hard to see until I could wipe it off. But I still hit a lot of them, so yeah, paintball I hope it would be. (sorry for it being so long)

Re: Team 538 Bonding time

Wow, that looks pretty bad. Good thing I have good reflexes, and can find decent hiding spots whenever I need them. I cam aim pretty goos too, so yea, I like to keep a distance and shoot from an elevated area where there is cover, you know, like a sniper. It's my best position sniper is, I don't do the whole infantry thing very well, only in video games.

As the sponsor 0f 538 I can say that the kids love to take on the mentors and sponsors. They say it is to get even for all the working nights that get tense and cranky. Needless to say the crankiness is always blamed on the sponsor. But I have to say it is also a good way for the sponsor to get those few team members that get on our last nerve at times.

Assuming you play on a supervised field with the proper safety equipment and rules enforcement....

You'll have a whole lot of fun!

Team 48 has been playing paintball for years now and the students, mentors, and alumni who have played have always had a good, fun time. We do this in the spring/summer months to help keep the team together during the robotics "offseason".

Time for a quick hypothetical lesson. Let's just assume for a minute that the pic up above of that guy with all those paintball bruises on his face isn't Photoshopped (the bruises are too uniform, and paintball bruises tend to be ring-shaped marks. He looks more like he was attacked by bees!) and that he was actually playing paintball (he looks like a skater d00d). Then that guy and every person he was playing with is an absolute moron for not taking the proper paintball safety precautions. The guy in the photo is an even bigger moron for implying that it's actually FUN to get shot in the face with 290 ft/s projectiles. Poof balls ain't got nothing on paintballs, folks. You wanna go blind? Act like that idiot.

If that amazingly turns out to be a genuine photo, then that is one of the most careless and downright insane exhibitions of idiocy I've ever observed from a human being. Ed, I'm wondering where you got that pic!

Safety on the paintball field and everywhere else is just as important as safety inside the shop and at a FIRST competition. Safety FIRST isn't just a concept that applies to robotics; it applies to everything you do in life.

Nice! Do you guys have an arcade near you all? Because we don't. Except if you consider the small one that's near the Food Court in the Annapolis Mall.

Thumbs up Re: Team 538 Bonding time

For bonding Team 1322 was allowed to shoot our balls at the area police!!! That was fun, they told us they want us to make a VW Bug shooter. We have played Whirly Ball together, high rope climbing and plan to climb rock walls before it is over. The weekend before competition we will have a "sleepover" at a mentors home. We will pig out on pizza, ice cream and other munchies. We watch some fun inspiring movies like October Sky. We will play Halo and maybe go to a local gaming center for a few hours.

Getting nailed in the goggles is one of the better places to get hit:
1.) Doesn't hurt
2.) it is fun, in a wierd way, for a big pink explosion to suddenly appear in front of you, maybe it's just surprising (shrug)

P.S. THIS DOES NOT MEAN I ADVOCATE AIMING FOR THE HEAD (to encourage your opponent to aim elsewhere, stand in the middle of the field waving your arms )
