How do you mount the encoders to the Gear boxes?

I have not found any documentation about how to mount the encoders to the gear boxes. Does anyone have any suggestions or info about this?

Ours has threads and a nut just before the shaft, so we drilled a hole a certain distance from one of the gearbox shafts allowing a plastic gear on the encoder to mesh with a brass gear on te shaft. Your encoders could be different so i dont know if i'm being much help.

We use a hollow shaft encoder from US Digital. I make the output shaft of the transmission a bit longer and mount the body of the encoder to the side of the transmission. The encoder disk slips on the shaft and is held in place with a set screw.

Re: How do you mount the encoders to the Gear boxes?

We actually put a small spur gear on the encoder and have it spinning as a dummy on our gearbox. Works great.

There are some pictures in the manual and on the IFI site.

Try it out...it's relatively self explanatory.

Re: How do you mount the encoders to the Gear boxes?

Last year 234 took the output shaft down outside of the drive gearbox to the diameter of the encoder and then attatched heat shrink tubing between the two shafts to relieve stresses on the encoder. This worked quite well, but we ended up not using becuase we didn't drive last year in autonomous.
