Re: How far ahead is FIRST in Game Design

Thats funny, how ironic that a joke turned out to be true. Well that might just negate this whole thread.

FIRST may plan ahead that far...but this isn't actual evidence of it.

Timeline for this? Are you serious? Did you hear the GDC member introductions at kickoff? How on earth can you put a timeline on a priceless process that goes something like this (OK, I'm totally guessing here, so I'm ducking and running in fear of retribution from above)...

Dr. Flowers: "Whatever we do it needs to be really, REALLY difficult and it needs to be engaging and accessible in all demographic settings."

Mr. Lavery: "Ohhhh, are those danish? When's lunch? Seriously, why NOT have sixteen different game objects? OK, I'll back down to these twelve, but the camera and the pond are staying in the game."

Mr. Norman: "You realize Dave, someone will eventually have to supply this stuff and make the field work."

Mr. Kamen: "Remember, we're trying to change the culture in a postive way here. Before I'm sold on any of this, you need to explain to me how it's going to inspire. I agree with Woodie, it needs to be hard, but for the right reasons and in the right way."

Mr. Porter: "I know one thing for sure. These sketches you guys drew for me make no sense at all. From the looks of this, you want a prototype bobblehead of Aretha Franklin about 12 feet tall. How the heck am I gonna do that with only quarter-twenty fasteners?"

Mr. Lavery: "That's not our problem, Walt. Just have it done by noon. Oh, and check on the food too."

Commander Chism: "All of you know we're supposed to ship kits in two months, right? Jason, you're awfully quiet, which game objects do you like?

Mr. Morella: "Huh? Oh sorry. I stopped listening after Dave mentioned danish."

Re: How far ahead is FIRST in Game Design

Or, maybe every year we actually guess the game correctly and then the few days before kickoff they have to redo the whole thing because we already guessed it.

Re: How far ahead is FIRST in Game Design

I'd be willing to bet that when the make a game, they think, "And here's what we can do next year!" Does it strike anyone else funny that this year we're chucking spherical foam balls? FIRSTERS have been asking for footballs for a long time, maybe next year, or perhaps the year after that, we get to chuck footballs? Or maybe I'm just an optometrist ?

Hehe...you mean find the time between working, mentoring, announcing, wiffleball, NERD, TNL, DJing, bowling, eating, and sleeping...

I'm thinking the Professor is on the verge of burnout at this point!

Plus...there is no way that FIRST would ever put up with my antics.

Maybe they give us cryptic clues, see what we come up with, and then use it! Everybody come up with a water field!
