PWM Cables

Several questions about the beloved (hated?) PWM cables.

1.) Is there a cheaper place to get them than IFIRobotics? $5 a pop is VERY steep.

2.) Where might I be able to get the connectors to make our own?

3.) Are there any rules about soldering directly to the RC? (Assuming that it was heat-shrink-wrapped (sp/grammar?) so as not to make contact with other parts...

4.) The Servos come in the Generic and Kubosomethingoranother connectors. Maybe if we could find said connectors...?

Re: PWM Cables

I believe any electronics place will sell the correct terminals to you.. look around for them.

Don't even think about soldering to the RC. You *will* melt something. Also, what happens if at at a competiton you need to replace one of the wires, or your RC becomes damaged? That won't be fun.

Search around this forum, you can find the correct connectors, and probably a crimp tool to use with them

Re: PWM Cables

Yes, soldering onto the rc is a bad idea, but I can understand why you would want to. On our team, we use a silicon adhesive called RTV to make sure the cables don't fall out. It's very similar to rubber cement. In fact, I bet you could even use rubber cement. Now, if you wanted to get really leet with it, you could make a giant connector that clamps onto the edge of the RC and holds all the pwms in place. That would probably be much less ghetto-looking (depending on how you build it of course). We did something like that with our victors.
