What Code do I need to Use?

I am a rookie this year, and i unzipped the sample code and imported all of the code files into mplab as the included readme said to do, and tried to compile the code as the readme said was possible. I ended up with hundreds of errors and i am not sure what code files i need?
If anyone could tell me what code files i need to import to mplab, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.
