Okay, that might be true, but only for a few matches. If any team gets their code, drivers, and mechanics working to such a good state where they can hit 85% or 90%+, the opposing alliances will likely tag a robot to run into them as much as possible during the match. This does leave partners open to score though, but it will hinder the uber-shooter's accuracy.

Re: 3 point shots

I even think 85% will be a little generous, more like 75% just because adjusting for being pushed from a side or getting hit, any robot shooting from near the top of the robot(those which probably will have more accuracy in my belief) will have the balls travel up towards the top in some way 'probably' causing their flight to change. Then again we're not done yet so i can't say

Re: 3 point shots

If they're shooting from anywhere below the top of their robot, it wouldn't be impossible to block

*Someone* will average far higher than this, very reliably. Thats why they become the winners! It never fails, someone is always very good at the game, every year. Who will do it? Who knows...

Re: 3 point shots

Our preliminary tests indicate that the figures being tossed about here are far from impossible.

If anything, balls bouncing out was a bigger problem than missing the hole.

Re: 3 point shots

If I had a nickel for every bounced ball instead of misses, I could fill up the tank on an ORIGINAL Hummer.

Is this true in a competition-like atmosphere? As is true every year, a robot driving around on the field being hit by other robots has more difficulty scoring. I'm wondering how much accuracy teams will have once they start getting run into while they're shooting, pushed against walls, etc.

Re: 3 point shots

Well when we were designing our robot and getting ideas and such. We came up with a few guidelines we wanted the robot to go by. Such as we want an autonomous mode (of course). We wanted to harvest balls and shoot them to higher goals and lower goals if possible. Well once we finally ended with an idea we decided to build from the ground up. Meaning we start with the chassis and then the harvester, and the transmission, and once we get to the top than we would work with the shooter. Well by the time we got to the top of the robot. We weighed it and it was about 90 lbs meaning not enough weight to put the shooter and whatnot. So yea we started with the idea that we wanted the shooter and ended up with something else completely different.

It depends on how good your shooter mech. is and your targeted points.
