Use copy of last year's C18 compiler?

Our team's mentor is kinda strict about our licensing on software. Because of this, he doesn't want more than one copy of the compilers and development environments for FIRST on the computers. This leaves us with a problem - we only have 1 laptop for programming and 2 programmers. I want to use MPLAB but the other wants to use EasyC (I think he's going to start working with gyroscopes and etc.) Could I use last year's compiler/MPLAB and have it work with this year's robot? Thanks
