Decent Scouting Program

This year, I got fed up with trying to find a decent scouting program. I found one that looked promising, but it was high maintainence and over 300 MB (what was that database!?). Then I found the First Scouting Network, but it didn't appear to have obvious functionality. So this year I'm writing my own using LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP).

Includes the Following Features:
- Managing of teams and viewing teams registered in specific competition
- Dynamic managing of data that allows for almost no code changes from year to year
- Scorekeeping with comments (not written yet)
- Alliance picker with weighting (not written yet)
- Module system so anyone can add functionality
- Fully customizable menu system

If anyone is interested in seeing a preview of this, email me:
joechrz [at] gmail [dot] com
I'll give you a link to a preview of the system that will give you full control over the sample database.

Also -- note that I may not make the application public, simply to provide for one central source of data. However, all information contained in the database about teams and competitions, as well as modules, will be made public as soon as the application has reached a stable status.

Re: Decent Scouting Program

I checked out STAMP, and from what I can tell, It's no different than any other program i've seen -- regarding the fact that it is year specific. The program I'm working on has nothing to do with year, but is rather based on points, penealties, qualifying points, and a weight factor. Not only does mine analyze the data from the matches, but it also keeps track of traditional scouting (asking about speed, agility, systems, etc). I have yet to find a program that combines everything into an easy to use interface that is season-independent.

Joe, I hear you loud and clear .

The problem is that their are so many things that are specific to a game that it is really to complex to code an app that can account for all future possibilities. What you can do however is create a code base that all you have do do is lay on the match specific inputs and you are pretty much ready to go, which we have tried to do with STAMP.

Now the great thing about STAMP is it's statistical analysis portion, which I might add, will have a preview release next Friday. STAMP allows you to rank not only on how many balls a robots shoots in a match, yada yada yada but it lets you sort by things like consistancy (stan. deviation on match results), weather a bot is under rated in the rankings due to a number of factors such as the toughness of their schedule or their increase in proficiency (they have gotten better overtime).

Re: Decent Scouting Program

I designed it with the idea that minimal or no coding would be necessary year-to-year. I'm in the process of writing the scorekeeping module right now (by the way, the whole system is modular so if you were really anal about coding for specific years, you could). The module will be based off of a combination of goals, penealties, qualifying points, user inputted risk factor. Also, the system includes 5 different data structures for inputting data. The scorekeeper will look at this and ask the user if any of the "on a scale from 1-10" should be included during the analysis process.

I look forward to seeing a real beta preview of the application. Yours very well might be better, since I'm working alone on mine (our team is only 15 people and I'm the only one who can do any coding). However, for working alone, I feel that these applications are both worthy, but we'll see as soon as we release official betas.
