MiniBike motor "modification"?

Opinion time, my FIRST friends ...

The MiniBike motor has a 2" stud sticking out, very close to the drive shaft. In your collective opinion, would the judges deem cutting the shaft of as "modifying" the motor?

I certainly hope not. we cut the stud off of ours in week 1!!

Actually I think there was a Q&A that said that you could remove the stud and drill mounting holes in the face of the motor.

The rule states that the intent of the rule is to allow modifications for the purpose of mounting the motor, and disallow modifications for the purpose of changing the motor specifications in any way. If it serves no purpose except for getting in your way, I'd say go for it...
