Go to Post My suggestion is to first focus in on your drive base. Get it running, and drive it into the ground and see what breaks. Then fix it. Rinse wash and repeat. - Andy A. [more]

Can we use the 2005 RC for this year's robot?

We want to know if we can use the 2005 robot controller for this year's robot, as there has been slight structural damage to our 2006 RC due to misuse by a freshman or something. We would very much like to know if we can use it as its rather important...thanks in advance.

As seen on the FIRST Q&A:

Question:
Our 2006 Robot Controller came defective.
I would like to confim that we can use 2005's Robot controller on the robot. In addition, is there any avenue we can persue to get a replacement 2006 Robot Controller?

Answer:
Please see Rule <R25>. You may not use the 2005 robot controller on your 2006 FRC robot. It is not an exact replacement for the 2006 robot controller.

As stated in Section 5.4.3 of the rules, all requests for replacement of defective parts were due to FIRST on January 11. If your 2006 controller currently in an inoperable condition, please contact Innovation First, Inc. to inquire about repair and/or replacement options.

IFI will upgrade Old Controllers for $120 (plus shipping to and from IFI), they can do it in 1-2 business days.

They also have a quick repair turn around time for broken controllers.

An interesting question would be if you're allowed to use a 2005 controller that has been upgraded as it should then be identical to the 2006 version. However, until there's a FIRST Q&A stating so, I would assume that anything other than the 2006 RC (upgraded or not) is not permitted.

I was just going to post this to the FIRST Q&A, but apparently our teams login is not working. If anyone wants to post it in the meantime, it is an interesting question.
