Sweet looking product, can't wait to see you at VCU (if not saturday's building museum scrimmage).

Re: pic: Team 384 Presents: Sparky 7

How thin is it? On the top it looks like one balls-width and it gets wider with every section. It doesn't look like it fills the dimensions that way at the wheelbase, does it? The pictures is slightly deceptive.

I'm curious why y'all geared your shooter motor down through the kit transmission and then back up again through sprockets.

My guess would be ease in mounting. Also, we can never know exactly what is inside of that box....

Re: pic: Team 384 Presents: Sparky 7

We have a line of balls that fall down in levels. I will post a picture from the front later to give a better example. We used the kit transmission to gear down and then back up because we wanted to use something we already had to power the wheel, so we started playing around with it and ended up using it. It also gives a good way to adjust the tension in the chain.

Re: pic: Team 384 Presents: Sparky 7

Sexy, although I do miss the good ole silver Sparky's myself.

Also, why don't you guys use the flags we made for Sparky 5.0? Much nicer than that one. I guess it's a Turner ego thing any.

Looking great James. I'll have to get down to Richmond sometime to check it out for myself.

Re: pic: Team 384 Presents: Sparky 7

I've been wondering about designs like yours. That wheel must be spinning something like 2,000 rpm, right? How well does the chain work at that speed? I always think of normal chains running at fairly modest RPMs and don't have personal experience with bicycle-style chains running that fast. (Although I know I've had cam chains in cars that would run at 6,000+ RPM, but I assume they were designed for that.) We are using timing belts instead of chains, mostly to save weight up high, but I am curious to see the chain-driven systems.

Good luck in your competition(s).

Yes, we can succcessfully get on top of the ramp. It took some extra thought and a lot of second guessing with the 4" wheels, but we can get up on top.

Looking great guys, hope we can get paired up again like last year. We'll probably see you at the DC scrimmage again this year. Best of luck this season, can wait till VCU and Nationals!
