Victor Resseting

Hey, after a long time, we finnaly got our gun wheels spinning. We had problems with the chain/sprockets binding. It would get stuck in the middle of turning and wouldn't spin after about 5 seconds. The victor was constantly reseting.

So finally we took it apart and got the whole system spinning freely. When we hooked it up and turned it on, the motor was spinning for about 25 seconds... everything was going good... then the spike reset and the motor slowed down, then 3 seconds later, it reset and slowed down again... and repeated until nothing was left. The chains and sprokets still spin freely since we checked but this happens everytime. First we thought it was a battey, but then every battery we put in... it kept doing it. All about the same time.

Could this be a problem with the Victor? Maybe a faulty Victor or could there still be a spot in the system that doesn't spin feely. The weird thing is... it spins very well until it gets to 20-25 seconds in. We are gonna swap out victors tomorow to check it but does someone else have any other suggestions about this?

Re: Victor Resseting

You mentioned Victors and Spikes - two different things. I assume you are driving the motors with the Victor (variable speed control).

The victors dont reset by themselves, the circuit breaker that is in series to protect them resets (opens), then a few seconds later it will close by itself.

Are you sure you are using the right circuit breaker for the motors? there are different current ratings. If you are using the CIM or drill motors you want the larger breakers.

Other than that, if something mechanical is binding it could be causing your motors to stall (draw a lot of current) and trip its breaker. A clamp-on DC amp meter would really help isolate the problem. If you see the motor drawing >40 amp then the breaker should be kicking off. If the victor is dropping out and the breaker is not tripping then something is wrong with the victor (watch the voltage on the input to the victor with a volt meter).

The other possibility is a loose wire somewhere, either a power wire to the victor, or from the victor to the motor, or a loose PWM cable?

Re: Victor Resseting

Hmmmm that may be the problem. YEs I was talking about Victors the whole time. The problem is probably something with the fuses, I haven;t looked at the fuses closely yet but tomorow I will check them. Thanks
