Re: Winter War Zone/UTC Scrimmage February 18

From a scouting perspective this game seemed hard. While autonomous modes are easy enogh to record, figuring out teams strategies is more complicated because of the Offensive/Defensive periods. I noticed that in the final rounds it's challenging to see whether balls are shot from the robots or being thrown from human players on both sides.

On another note the accidental balls flying into the audience makes it pretty exciting. Oh and the periods pass quickly....good communicaion on alliances is essential in this game.

I'd say that they were making sure the field was fully working, which it was. To my knowledge there was only one interruption during game play. For some reason the field didn't choose who won autonomous mode, and it froze up. Other than that, the field seemed to do well.
The real time scoring was working, the score was displayed on the monitor at the scoring station, but due to a lack of a projector and a place to project it on, it wasn't displayed to the competition. We had some humans counting the balls going through out the event to double check with the computer system and it always seemed to match. The one time during elims that the field locked up was due to a sensor in the top goal freezing, thinking a ball was still in the goal waiting to count it in to determine the auton winner. This was easily fixed. A big Thank You goes out to all that attended the event and also especially to those who helped out there.

Good Luck!

Re: Winter War Zone/UTC Scrimmage February 18

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this....

Congratulations to the winning alliance: 173, 716 and the rookie team 1784 from Litchfield, CT! All three robots were extremely strong and will be definite contenders at their regionals.

It is also interesting to note that 126 seeded 4th with their 2005 robot.

Seeing what our veterans come up with every year is always exciting, but seeing what the rookies do is even better! Congratulations to the Litchbots and we wish you and all the other rookies the best of luck this season!

Re: Winter War Zone/UTC Scrimmage February 18

I have a question about the computers that were at the center stations... what was the purpose of them!?!?

i know they were running labview and "counting" but in one match it showed only 2 corner goals + 1 center goal scored but the allaince scored 30+ pts!?!? so were they there just for show or configuration!?! and will they be there at regionals???

I helped setup on friday- so I know that those consoles (under the drive station) have all the communication, ball counters, robot disable controls, etc- all running throught them. The display will not normally be there but I think they left them there for easy access(during the scrimmage) I noticed the scoring questions too. I think they had human counters double checking the balls- as I saw them running arround with totals after the match- So the scoring was probably still being perfected. In the past- they've never been 100% ready at this point- as far as all the advanced/realtime scoring and control systems. So this year I think they were actually more prepaired than ever- at this point. unlike our build session- they still have a couple weeks!!

Re: Winter War Zone/UTC Scrimmage February 18

The HP computers that are placed under the center players station is what does the counting for the corner and center goals. It is running an NI LabVIEW application that "takes the data being sent from the goals and converts it into a number". The 15" HP monitors, keyboards and mice will not be there during the competition season. The larger silver cases, which were done by Hatch Technologies, are the electronics consoles and are what directly connects the field electronics together, ties the field to the scoring computer, and communicates between your OI's and the Arena controllers. There are a set of each of these on both ends of the field.
