so what's your bots name, and why?
our robot is B.O.B. This is in honor of our mentor BOB WOOD how passed away about two weeks ago. Bob always called the robot the bucket of bolts and so it was only fitting that we named it after him.

Re: So, what did you name your baby?

We discussed a lot, but ended on SARTANYAC: Beta Project. We began with SARTANYAC last year, when in a brainstorming session I made up a long and obnoxious acronym standing for the Super Awesome Robot That Always Needs Your Aluminum Cans (an aluminum can drive is our main fundraiser). We then tacked a 3000 on the end to make it sounds kind of cheesy and funny, finishing last year with SARTANYAC 3000. This year, we decided we wanted to continue with SARTANYAC, but didn't know where it should logically go. SARTANYAC 2 was less than 3000, SARTANYAC 4000 doesn't stand out, SARTANYAC 4 sounds like its our fourth robot, etc. Then we decided to follow it with text, as opposed to numbers. We, in the end, decided on SARTANYAC: Beta Project, with the Beta portion signifying that it was our second robot. I think we're going to stick with SARTANYAC in the future, and already have starting thinking up names for next year's bot.

I also will add we had joked about naming our robot Chuck Norris during the build season. I don't think FIRST would allow it, but we figured with our spinning capabilities we could hinge a boot that would swing out when spinning, thereby initiating a "roundhouse kick". We found it funny at least.

We sadly don't know what are robot is going to be named, but we've had thoughts of magic fridge, and black plauge because the last week of build almost all of our mentors got sick.

Re: So, what did you name your baby?

We named ours "Pedro." It's probably after a popular joke T-shirt, "Vote for Pedro" that came out shortly after Pedro Martinez and the rest of the Boston Red Sox won the World Series in 2005. But it's most likely from the "Vote for Pedro" shirt (probably an American Eagle shirt).

Re: So, what did you name your baby?

I'd recently taken to calling Team X-Bot's latest robot 'Hex' since it rhymed with X and last year's robot was named X5, leading me to assume that Hex was the team's sixth robot. Last night, I learned that's not the case at all and 488 took a year off in 2002. Oops. This is only our fifth.

Hex is in TIMS and everyone calls it that anyway, so Hex it is.

Katapult - because everything in Kokomo that is normally spelled with a 'C' is spelled with a 'K'. This is actually the second robot named Katapult, the first being the '94 robot.

Re: So, what did you name your baby?

We named ours Dory, since one of our team parents kept telling our team's moderator to "keep swimming" (from Finding Nemo) since she was nervous of whether or not we'd pull it off, and we did, finally.

Some others wanted to name it Senor StonDark.

Our robot was, as soon as the main drive train was complete, ceremoniously christened "Not So Cattywampus VII".

We poured a can of Mountain Dew on the top left corner and called it good.
